4.1.2.4.Sustainability

In order to realise a sustainable HIV/AIDS response, the CFAs need to embed their HIV/AIDS policy within the whole structure and layers of their organisations. This process has started, especially in Novib, Cordaid and ICCO. Sustainability is best secured by Hivos through their recent (July 2005) reorganisation and specialisation. To what extent the HIV/AIDS policy and programmes will be sustainable, depends on the ongoing commitment of senior staff resulting in an investment in (specialised) staff, the elaboration of strategic responses to HIV/AIDS and the availability of money. It should be impossible for a change of priorities to result in the disappearance of HIV/AIDS or for to become less prominent on the forefront (see what happened with gender mainstreaming). Involvement in networks such as SAN! and Sharenet is important in this respect as these networks challenge the management of the CFAs to keep the focus.
