4.2.2.4. Relevance

Support to internal and external mainstreaming processes, that goes beyond funding, lies in the scope of the HIV/AIDS policy papers and strategies of all CFAs, and corresponds to a felt need by counterparts, certainly in Southern Africa. This support is relevant as the sustainability of the counterparts is at stake. In fact, counterparts demand a more thorough and intensive participation of the CFAs in their reflections processes.
CFAs play an important role in enabling generalist organisations to deal with HIV/AIDS. As the CFAs are not AIDS-specific organisations, they cooperate with a broad range of counterparts who are specialised in several sectors (sustainable economic development, sustainable livelihoods, gender, democratisation, etc.) and can therefore contribute through their specific programmes to the elimination of different factors that cause vulnerability to HIV/AIDS. The CFAs have taken this up in their policy and the process has started.
