Wendy Boren, RN, BS

President

Wendy Boren, RN, BS is a clinical nurse educator for the Quality Improvement Program for Missouri (QIPMO). She supports and educates administrators, DONs, and clinical nursing staff in the Southeast region of Missouri. She has worked as a registered nurse in long-term care for 10 years in multiple administrative and clinical roles. She served as MC5 co-rep in the Southeast Region for 5 years and the MC5 board of directors for 3 years prior to her role as president.

Wendy volunteers as an Alzheimer’s Association Community Educator (AACE) and as a Blue Mind Ambassador. Her passion is studying neurological change due to trauma and disease and finding ways through ecotherapy, art, music, and mindful occupation to cognitively stimulate those who suffer from dementia, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and other neuroses. Wendy's mantra is simple. " Life shouldn't change just because you need a little help. And there’s always hope."

Justin Blattel, BS, RCAL

Vice-President

Justin Blattel, is a 2011 graduate of Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship. He is an active member in both the local and state communities, being involved in MC5, MALA, St. Charles COAD, and Western St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce. He is a licensed Missouri Residential Care/Assisted Living Administrator, and his expertise is management of Independent and Assisted Living care for seniors. Justin has also worked on several affordable senior housing projects built with MHDC tax credits. He is currently the Executive Director of Twin Oaks at Heritage Pointe in Wentzville MO where brings new ideas, technology experience and a love for seniors. Justin is always willing to lend a hand in management, technology, and entrepreneurship organization.

Kim Fanning RN, MSN, LHNA

Secretary

Kim began her career in the acute care setting and currently is enjoying serving seniors in Assisted Living and Assisted Living Memory care in Columbia, Missouri. She obtained her BSN from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO and a Master’s of Science in Nursing from University of Missouri. She has been a part of MC5 for several years and currently serves as the Secretary for the organization.

Deborah Finley, MPA, LNHA


Treasurer
Deborah Finley has over 40 years’ experience working with seniors in the fields of home and community based services, long term care, and Medicare.  She is a LNHA with a Master’s in Public Administration and is a Certified Professional in Health Care Quality.  Her skill sets include adult education and training, social marketing, project administration, grant writing, budgeting, legislative advocacy, and coalition building.  She is semi-retired, working 2 days per week on a project in long term care with the Sinclair School of Nursing.

Susan Jotte, JD

Regional Coordinator



Susan has been an MC5 St. Louis Regional Rep for5 years. Susan serves as the MC5 Regional Coordinator, which involves helping the regions collaborate with speakers, meeting dates, web site and registration management, and processing CEU requests. Susan a law degree which means she likes paperwork. In the past, she served as the Regional Ombudsman Coordinator for Northeast Missouri.

Susan considers volunteering for MC5 her biggest professional commitment and she is passionate about improving the lives of persons on the adult care continuum. She and her husband have two sons living at home ages 18 and 20. Susan is available to answer questions from Regional Reps at any time.

Angela Keeven, LCSW, LNHA

Education Committee Co-Chair

Angela Keeven is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) and works as the Vice President of Organizational Development for Cedarhurst Living. She is also the founder and president of OwnLiving, LLC. Her passion to improve the lives of older adults through meaningful and purposeful living has developed her into a recognized leader and mentor. Angie hold a Masters of Social Work with an emphasis in gerontology, management, and family therapy from Washington University in St. Louis.

Lori Bonnot, BS, Assistant Executive Director, Missouri League for Nursing


Education Committee Co-Chair
Lori has worked for health care associations since 2003. She plans educational offerings for health care professionals with a focus on long-term care.  Lori has been actively involved with MC5 since their very first meeting in 2005.  She has served on the Education Committee, Communication Committee, and has served as Member at Large since 2010. It is her passion to educate as many people as possible to spread the word that we need to respect each individual’s dignity and provide the best care possible.

Leslie Carter, LPN

Education Committee Co-Chair

Leslie Carter is an LPN for Autumn Leaves Assisted Living Memory Care in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. She serves as their Director of Healthcare. Leslie obtained her LPN license from Flint Hills Vocational Technical School in Emporia, Kansas in 1991 and has devoted her career to geriatric nursing. Leslie has held multiple positions including both administrative and clinical nursing. Leslie serves as an MC5 Regional Representative in the Kansas City Region, is on the MC5 education committee, and also serves as a Board member for MC5. She also serves on the education committee of the Pioneer Network. Leslie is a role model and advocate for person-centered care.

Joan Devine, RN, BSN, MA

Communications Committee Co-Chair

MC5 Past President

Joan Devine currently serves as the Director of Education for the Pioneer Network. Joan is a certified Eden Educator and Mentor and is the owner and operator of JPDevine Consulting whose mission is to “support care partners on their journey 2 home”. A registered nurse and former activity professional, Joan has over 30 years of experience in healthcare having served in leadership positions in long term and acute care settings since 1990. As an advocate for the LTC culture change movement, Joan actively participates in culture change activities, preparing and equipping administrator's and other senior care leaders to implement person directed practices and transform the culture of their home. She has presented for state and national organizations including the National Pioneer Network, Leading Age Missouri, American Association of Medical Directors, Missouri Health Care, Illinois Pioneer Network, Capitol Care in Edmonton Alberta Canada and the Alabama M4A conference. Joan is also the author of the book, “Word of the Week: Creating a Culture Change Dictionary.

Rita Davidson, LPN

Communications Committee Co-Chair

Rita has been a nurse for 30 years and is currently employed at the Mexico Missouri Veterans Home. She was Director of Nursing at Teal Lake Assisted Living and The Arbors at Lakeview Bend in Mexico Missouri for 12 years.  She is a member of Southside Christian Church in Mexico, Missouri and is married with 6 children and 12 grandchildren.

Michael Stoker, MA

Board Member

Michael is the Executive Director of a local hospice in Kansas City, MO. He received his M.A. in Counseling from Grace University where he was the recipient of the Betty Sims Hatcher Award in Theological Integration. Michael’s academic, managerial, and coaching focus is in psychological and theological integration and how people change and achieve. He is a Certified Executive Coach through Bellevue University and the Graduate School Alliance for Executive Coaching and has special training in Critical Incident Stress Management. Michael has held leadership positions in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations for over 15 years and has worked as a counselor and leader in hospice for 13 years. He also serves on the Missouri DHSS Hospice Advisory Council. In his spare time Michael can be found spending time with his family, running, and educating or discussing grief and loss, stress management, organizational development, virtue epistemology, and holistic team function. Michael’s desire is to be a part of developing and reconnecting others to healthy communities—locally, in the workplace, and abroad through his work in hospice and the church.

Alanna Francis, BS, MM

Board Member

Alanna graduated from Fontbonne University in 2000 with a BS in Business Administration and in 2013 with a Master’s Degree in Management. Alanna began marketing to long-term care communities in 2008. Throughout her professional career she was worked in sales and marketing long-term care pharmacies. She has extensive exposure to the various culture change journeys of SNFs, ALFs, and RCFs throughout Missouri and understands the struggles facing many communities in implementing culture change. Alanna currently works for Avanir Pharmaceuticals as a Long-Term Care Neuroscience Account Manager promoting Nuedexta for Pseudobulbar Affect. Alanna is available to help educate communities on the resources available with MC5, and can bring various community leaders together to share and develop constant care enhancement; and most importantly, learning from residents as to how their rights and comfort should be provided.

Stephanie Stewart, MSN, RN

Stephanie Stewart has been a Registered Nurse for the last 20 years and has practiced in many different areas of nursing including Labor & Delivery, Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Long-term Care.  As a nurse in long-term care for several years, Stephanie held several roles including Director of Nursing and multi-state Clinical Consultant.  In 2012 Stephanie took her love for gerontological nursing into academia and has taught in a bridge program for LPNs to become RNs and a pre-licensure Baccalaureate nursing program for aspiring RNs.  In 2013 she completed a Master's of Science in Nursing degree in addition to her gerontological nursing certification.  Stephanie is a member of the American Nurses' Association, Missouri Nurses' Association, Sigma Theta Tau, and the National Gerontological Nursing Association.  As a current nursing professor at Missouri Western State University, Stephanie has a strong vested interest in helping nursing students to have excellent experiences while working with older adults in the clinical settings.

Kameron Wilson, LNHA

Board Member

Kameron S. Wilson’s dedication to the healthcare field and particular passion for Long-Term skilled nursing care was fostered as a young child. He began volunteering in the industry at age eight and continued this role until age 16 when he was hired at a nursing facility in the dietary department. Kameron’s experience has focused on providing quality care to the elderly and advocating for quality of life initiatives designed to benefit clients and their family members. Kameron currently serves as Administrator/ CEO for Mid States, Inc.





Nicky Martin, BS, LNHA, CDP

Board Member

Nicky has over 22 years of experience in the long-term care (LTC) industry. She began her LTC career as a business office manager in a 60-bed skilled nursing facility in 1996. Nicky got her administrator license and was promoted to administrator in 2001. Nicky has been active with all departments within the facility and has experience with team building, operational management, budget analysis and accountability, Medicare/Medicaid billing procedures, and facility projects and improvements. Nicky is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, has experience in implementing, encouraging, and developing Culture Change, and holds a Bachelor’s of Accountancy degree.
