When
beg
means ‘ask someone to do something’, it is nearly always used as a reporting verb.
Compare: ‘Please forgive me.’ ‘He begged her to forgive him.’
To make a request in a formal letter, use
l/we should/would be grateful
if
... (NOT
I/We beg you
...): ‘I would be grateful if you could raise this question at the next meeting.’
