On Friday, September 8, our PTA brought youth resilience speaker, Molly Kennedy, to VCMS to present “Creating the Champion Within.” Molly is a bodybuilding champion and an Ironman Triathlete. She used humor to connect with students, as she talked about being in complete control of a champion mindset. It’s a paradigm. Molly calls it a “pair of dimes” or “20 cent.” Although you can’t control the “stuff” that comes into your life, you can choose how you think about it. HELPFUL HINTS FOR OPEN HOUSE

VCMS Open House is on Thursday, September 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. You’ll get the chance to meet your child’s teachers as you follow his or her schedule and move from class to class. Here are some tips to make it easier for you to navigate VCMS.

• 
  You will be following a Day 1 schedule.
  

• 
  Before heading to school, check your child’s schedule for his or her mod 1 teacher and the classroom number.
  

• 
  Open House runs from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Plan to arrive early so you have time to get to your mod 1 class by 6:00 p.m.
  

• 
  Stop at the VCMS PTA table to become a member, get helpful resources, and pick up a bottle of water on the way to your mod 1 class.
  

• 
  You will receive your child’s schedule in his or her mod 1 class.
  

• 
  Each mod will last for 10 minutes.
  

• 
  Ignore lunch on your child’s schedule and skip to the next class.
  

• 
  Use study halls to visit the music wing and the library. Stop at the Student Council table to purchase sportswear, learn about their events, and purchase tickets for the Back to School BBQ.
  

THIS WEEK IN SPORTS: GIRLS JV SOCCER

On September 14, the girl’s JV soccer team beat Lockport, 8-2.  Jessica Whitfield led the way with 3 goals.  Adiana Cotroneo added an assist. 

Congratulations to Mr. Bowman on his 200^th career coaching win. THIS WEEK IN SPORTS: MODIFIED FOOTBALL

The Modified Football Vikings continued its 3-year, 18-game winning streak by defeating Kenmore East Middle, 34-6.  Tyler Figliola had three scores while Jackson Jones, Justin Horvath, and Michael Doctor also chipped in for the Vikings.  Jashon Dhillon, Josh Mallabar, and a Brian Bielec interception led the defensive effort.  Congratulations on a great team win!
