A MH-53 military Pave Low helicopter crashes in a river bed, killing 5 and injuring seven. The dead are from 20th Special Ops Wing and from 10th Mountain Division. Helicopter was ferrying soldiers to Operation Mountain Resolve in Kunar and Nooristan. Possibly shot down. Wreckage strongly suggests copter was downed.

A sixth PRT civic action/pacification team is opened – after units in Bamiyan (2 NZ), Kunduz (@ Germany), Mazar (@ Britain), Gardez and Parwan. The Herat unit comprises some 50-70 U.S. soldiers. These PRTs are severely criticized by UN and aid groups for blending aid and war and causing attacks upon aid workers.
Attacker throws grenade at a US military vehicle parked in a busy square, injuring 2 US soldiers, one seriously loosing a leg. Allegedly arrested the attacker who was a member of the local police force. 2 Americans evacuated to Germany.
