INR 314 International Organisations


A study of international organizations as organized by states and governments, focusing mainly on the United Nations system.

INR 316 International Political Economy

To highlight the role economic power in international relations and possession of global power structure; how economic structure and economic policies are employed in seeking global power
INR 320 International Security

This course examines the major theoretical debates in the field of international security, addresses the range of security threats that the international community faces at the beginning of the new millennium and discusses how the international community is responding to the persistence of such threats


INR 312 Human Rights Protection in IR (Elective)
Articulate important doctrinal rules, standards and principles of International Human Rights Law; explain what they mean and provide appropriate examples; and Present competing policy arguments regarding contemporary problems in International Human Rights Law.
INR 318 Ethnicity and Nationalism (Elective)
At the end of the class the student learns the basic theories of nationalism and learns how nationalism is experienced in different societies around the world.
INR 322 Management of Natural Resources (Elective)

This course introduces students to the theoretical themes involved in the study of management of natural resources. It provides students with an overview of the key concepts, methods and actors at both national and international levels. This course also aims to give a better understanding of Turkey’s policies of natural resources management from a comprehensive and interdisciplinary perspective.



INR 324 Russian Foreign Policy (Elective)

Student who are taking this course will be able to analyse the current developments related to Russian foreign policy and will have an analytical tool to understand the forthcoming issues and developments on Russian policy agenda with having an academic vision.



INR 328 History of Balkans


The rise and evolution of modern Balkan states; The Balkans as a sub-system of international politics; the foreign policies of Balkan states; the main issues of international relations in the Balkans.

IV. YEAR



FALL TERM

INR 403 New Perspectives on Contemporary IR Theory

Student who are taking this course will be able to analyse the current developments related to Turkish foreign policy and will have an analytical tool to understand the forthcoming issues and developments on Turkish policy agenda with having an academic vision.

INR 431 Regional Integration Arrangements in Theory

Analysis of economic and other forms of regional integration arrangements in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South and North America. Motives and non-economic rationale behind forming regional groupings. Costs and benefits of forming regional groupings in both standard and new theories.



INR 401 US Foreign Policy (Elective)

American foreign policy in the 20th century; its setting, objectives and processes; its historical and analytical evolution; the role of interests groups, elites, political parties and public opinion; America and the New World order.




INR 421 Water Politics (Elective)

Discussion of the limited water potential in terms of population, social and economic growth, possibility of conflicts over fresh water resources. Evaluation of international and trans-boundary water resources in terms of international law. Resolutions of United Nations and other international organizations on this subject.

INR 423 Middle East Politics (Elective)

This course aims to teach the students about the rise and evolution of modern Middle East; Middle East as a sub-system of international politics; the foreign policies of Middle Eastern states; the main issues of international relations in the Middle East.

INR 425 Balkan Politics (Elective)

The rise and evolution of modern Balkan states; The Balkans as a sub-system of international politics; the foreign policies of Balkan states; the main issues of international relations in the Balkans.

INR 427 Politics of Caucasus (Elective)

This course is designed for students interested in the contemporary problems of the Caucasus. The aim is to give the student an awareness of the various domestic and international factors that influence government, politics and foreign policymaking in the three independent-Caucasian states, namely Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. In addition to that, the situation in the Northern Caucasus will also be examined. To accomplish all of these aims, the history of the region, the contemporary developments and the future shape of the region's socio-political and geopolitical landscape will be examined. In order to achieve that goal the students will examine the legacy of the Russian and Soviet rule and try to find out how this legacy affects/or will affect the future of Caucasus. The Russian and Soviet legacies include not only the socio-political and economic structures, which were imposed upon these states, but also the emergence of distinct national consciousness. The course will discuss whether or not the Soviet policy of transforming the social and cultural aspects of Caucasian lives succeeded or failed.

INR 429 Politics of Mediterranean (Elective)

This course aims to analyze the Mediterranean as a historical and cultural sub-system and examines the broad issues such as democratization, the North-South gap, regional organizations, threat perceptions and other security concerns of the region. At the end of the course students can understand the region and comment the Turkey’s neighbourhood.
INR 433 International Financial Organisations

The aim of this course is to familiarize the students with the developments of a world financial system (Breton Woods institutions), which aimed also to help to the reconstruct Europe after the WWII. It is also aimed to teach to the students the role, objectives and functions of IMF, World Bank group and other financial organizations in current political and financial situation, with criticisms and new challenges facing those financial organizations under the effects of globalization. It is expected by students will understand the world economic situation in the perspective of international organizations.


INR 437 Use of Force in International Relations
After this course, students can learn historical evolution of war and use of force that are problem-solving methods in international relations beyond diplomacy.
SPRING TERM

INR 408 Current Issues in World Politics

Student will gain at the end of this course an ability to understand and analyse the current issues on world politics agenda, their effects on the states, the system and the individuals. They will have a chance to enlarge their visions and update their knowledge on world politcs on the eve of graduation.
