The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is a research organisation focusing in the science and technology of nano devices for energy, life sciences and information technology. The Institute promotes collaboration among different disciplines to carry out basic and applied research, working within the Barcelona Nanocluster and with local and global industry. In the context of EPIC, research and development activities include biophotonics and biosensors, lab-on-a-chip, organic solar energy cells, thermal transport in the micro- and nano-scale and opto-mechanics. Its Flexible Nanofabrication Platform develops solutions for cost-efficient and scalable processes suitable for photonics devices. The institute participates in active in several national and international research initiatives, such as the graphene flagship (graphene-based biosensors) and nanophononics. www.icn2.cat

IHP performs R&D in the fields of silicon-based systems, highest-frequency integrated circuits, and technologies for wireless and broadband communication. The focus of research at the institute is oriented towards issues relevant for business, resulting in applications for telecommunications, semiconductor and automotive industries, aerospace, telemedicine, and automation technologies. The institute has developed into a competence center for silicon-germanium technologies. In recent years, IHP is dedicating considerable efforts to photonic frontend integration with its high-performance BiCMOS technology. IMB-CNM, the Microelectronics Institute of Barcelona belongs to the Spanish National Research Council: CSIC. The institute has a cleanroom facility: a 1500m2 class 100/10.000 devoted to micro- and nanotechnologies with a high level of process flexibility. Within the area of photonics our center has established a useful integrated technology based on silicon and silicon based-dielectrics to obtain: optical components, electro-optical devices and hybrid elements. Moreover, hybrid systems for biosensing applications: photonic lab on a chip both using organic-inorganic polymers and elastomers were developed for both the domestic and industrial sectors, such as health and environment. www.imb-cnm.csic.es

IMT is a foundry, development and out-sourcing partner for customized microstructures on and in glass such as micro-channels, wave-guides with gratings, flow-cells, microwells, sub-µm dots in gold and other materials, diffractive gratings, reticles, gratings and resolution targets. Our core competences: Microstructures in the sub-µm range, Coatings: metallic and optical and anti-reflection coatings, Structuring of coatings, Etching, Conductive microstructures, Photo-structurable protective coatings, Photomask: Master making. We employ a staff of 80 experts in the fields of optics, physics, microlithography, process development and quality assurance. Lyon Institute of Nanotechnology (INL) is a joint research unit between CNRS, Centrale Lyon, INSA Lyon, University Lyon 1 and CPE Lyon. Multidisciplinary and technological research are carried out at INL, in various areas of micro and nanotechnologies and their applications. Research fields extend from materials to systems, fostering the emergence of fully fledged technologies. INL draws on the resources of the NanoLyon technology facility. INTEC, the Department of Information Technology of Ghent University, is a large department (approximately 300 people) covering many fields related to photonics: photonic integration, high speed electronics for photonic systems, photonic networks and network protocols. INTEC's Photonics Research Group has a focus on photonic integration and silicon photonics and works closely with imec, Belgium, in developing photonic integrated circuits for telecom, datacom, sensing and biosensing. The Electronics Design group of INTEC has a focus on custom design of high speed electronic circuitry for advanced photonics systems. The Broadband Communication Networks group works closely with iMinds in its research on network architectures and protocols. INTEC is strongly involved in the European Master of Science in Photonics program, a joint degree offered by Ghent University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.www.intec.ugent.be

The International Laser Centre is an interdisciplinary research organization formed to foster collaborative research in the areas of progressive methods and technologies of photonics; and their application in industry and health care. The Centre was created by the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic in January 1997. Institut Lafayette is a newly-created innovation platform located on the Technopole of Metz in France, adjacent to the building of Georgia-Tech Lorraine, the European campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology. Its mission is to simultaneously provide access to world-class facilities/expertise in advanced semiconductor materials/devices research and prototyping for innovations in optoelectronics, and to offer an array of technology transfer services that will accelerate and increase the efficiency of commercialization of these innovations. The newly created institute is housed in a brand new 25,000 sq.ft. building comprised of offices, laboratories and a 5,000 sq.ft. cleanroom fully equipped with state-of-the-art characterization, fabrication, and pilot manufacturing equipment to enable innovations and training in optoelectronics and inorganic/organic semiconductors.
