8.3Actions taken

Various discussions were held on the desirability of feature extraction and descriptor generation to be operational using front-end hardware with low amount of memory. Memory consumption of descriptors is already one parameter in core experiments. To better emphasize this desirable property, the following sentences were added to the CDVS requirements document:

• 
  “The standard should include an operational mode that allows the extraction pipeline to be implemented on devices with low memory (e.g. below 1 MByte).”
  
• 
  “If a descriptor is extracted at different operational points w.r.t. bit rate, memory usage etc., these shall retain meaningful interoperability.”
  

The following Core experiments were defined to be run in the AHG period until the next meeting:

  CE1 - Global descriptors

  CE2 - Reduction of vector quantization tables size in TM
  
• 
  CE3 - Feature Point Location Coding
  
• 
  CE4 - Key Point Detection
  
• 
  CE5 - Local Descriptors
  
• 
  CE6 - Retrieval
  

Particular aspects relating to these were noted as follows:
