A meeting of the Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding (JCT-VC) was held under ITU-T SG 16 auspices in a co-located fashion with the 96th WG11 meeting. WG11 approved the production of Test Model (N12000) and Working Draft (N12001) outputs of that activity.
The output test model and draft status produced from this (Geneva, 5th) JCT-VC meeting is referred to as HM 3. After an editing period, software and documents corresponding to HM 3 were produced after the meeting. The corresponding draft status produced from the preceding (Daegu, 4th) JCT-VC meeting is referred to as HM 2.
Preliminary tests performed after the meeting showed an improvement in compression performance of HM 3.0 (compared to HM 2.0) as shown in the following table for the various configurations. Some additional gain should also be evident in further incremental releases after integration of additional features that were not yet ready for the HM 3.0 software release.
