3.7Scalability use cases (requirements related)
Contributions in this area were discussed jointly with MPEG Requirements, MPEG Video, and VCEG.
Views expressed: 1) don't have multiple profiles with similar performance and application domain, 2) emphasize simplicity and decoding process compatibility – e.g. the "plain RefIdx with upsampling" approach.
Tentative conclusion: Agree to plan one simple profile, PDAM at next (July) meeting.
Bit depth and colour gamut scalability – TBD.

Based on the available performance and complexity evidence, it was proposed that a HLS-only profile be standardized in a timely manner and the standardization schedule for the scalable extensions work be clarified. Furthermore, it was proposed that the RefIdx solution in the SHVC test model 1 can be used as the basis for establishing the proposed profile.
