Closing plenary topics

A closing plenary of the Video subgroup was held Friday 9:00–11:00. Output docs were approved, and AHGs were established. Discussions are recorded in this section.

All issues regarding breakout activities are basically reflected in the respective subsections about BoG activities above, or in the section about output docs below.

The Video plenary was closed Friday 06-26 at 12:06.

    1. Output docs

During the closing plenary, the following output documents were recommended for approval by the Video subgroup (including information about publication status and editing periods, as well as person in charge):

During the presentation of a draft document “On the relevance of some patents to VCB” one expert expressed an objection, and referred to the previous discussion on Tuesday, without substantiating any argument. The Excel sheet was shown during the video plenary. No comments were made on it. No consensus was reached for approving this document as an output, so the suggestion to issue it was therefore not affirmed.

The results of IVC comparison versus AVC high profile were presented during the video plenary. A preliminary report was presented by the test chair. The final report was expected to be available within two weeks, including a detailed description of the visual assessment setup and the results. As a preliminary conclusion, it was concluded that the two codecs under test provided very similar results (in most cases with confidence intervals that are overlapping, in some cases IVC is visually better than AVC High Profile, in some cases AVC HP is better than IVC). In general, IVC seems to have slightly better performance than the AVC HP anchors used in the LD cases.

It would be attractive to produce a type-1 standard which is comparable in performance to AVC HP.

From these results, it was concluded that IVC should be progressed into the formal standardization approval process to become ISO/IEC 14496-33.

HDR: “The commonalities and architectures” and three CE documents were presented as initial versions. All four documents are intended to become public, and have a finalization date within two weeks after the meeting. Initial versions shall be circulated via the relevant AHG reflector (the "xyz" reflector).
