Please note, the Treasury is currently advertising for Policy Analyst’s across the Department. This position only relates to Policy Analyst’s in the Foreign Investment Division, given the specialised nature of this role. Do you want to work in a complex, fast-paced environment that facilitates vital foreign investment into Australia while protecting the national interest? Foreign Investment Division is looking to fill current and future vacancies with talented people from a broad range of backgrounds.
We are interested in people with experience in policy development, law, and/or regulatory compliance. Private sector experience in investment, mergers and acquisitions and related fields would also be highly valued. The division’s aim is to build on its current expertise through recruitment of high performing policy officers, and look for opportunities to expand that expertise wherever possible with relevant new skillsets from the public and private sector.
The Foreign Investment Division, part of the Markets Group, is responsible for facilitating foreign investment to support economic growth, while ensuring that national interest concerns are appropriately addressed. The division works with the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) (www.firb.gov.au) and provides policy advice to the Treasurer and other portfolio ministers on foreign investment matters.
It works closely with law firms, investment advisers and investors in reviewing investment proposals. The Division also works closely with a wide range of government agencies, including the Australian Taxation Office and national security agencies.
Positions are currently available in foreign investment policy, investment case screening and compliance policy development/monitoring roles.
Desirable Qualifications / Experience Successful applicants will have:

  • experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • policy development and analysis

  • legislative development and/or implementation

  • regulatory compliance

  • governance and risk management, or

  • advising on mergers and acquisitions.

  • sound judgement

  • personal drive and integrity

  • a record of achieving results

  • strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagements skills

  • strong written and oral communication skills.

Although there are no mandatory requirements for the roles, qualifications in law, economics, finance and public policy are highly desirable.


For the compliance role/s, experience in a regulatory compliance or enforcement role will be highly desirable.
Applicants must be willing and eligible to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance and a number of roles require holding a NV1 clearance.

Employees of the Treasury are required to be Australian citizens and are required to obtain a security clearance prior to commencement and maintain this clearance for the duration of their employment.

This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing opportunities will be offered for a specified term for an initial period of up 12 to 18 months (determined by business requirements), with the possibility of extension up to three years.
