The author and the staff of the course: Dr.oec. Silvija Kristapsone

The aim of the course:

To acquaint the students with concepts of statistics and types of statistic observation, summarising and graphic reflection methods, as well as acquaint the students with the essence of the most common statistic methods and their opportunities used in the practice of macroeconomics and companies.

For empowering of the student cognitive activities and for knowledge testing, autonomous works are assigned, by which, based on concrete initial information, the task is given to calculate and analyse statistic indices, to come to conclusions.

With knowledge control purpose, a test is assigned with different level theoretical and practice problems.

Envisaged results:

To know theoretically the statistical observation types, grouping types, statistical information display approaches, statistical calculation formulas for indices estimation and their use, opportunities of statistical methods. The students have to prove their skills by practice works (autonomous works).

Short course abstract:

Statistics mean data (information) collection, processing and results’ assessment or interpretation. Nowadays not a single autonomous structural unit is able to exist without knowledge and application of various information data processing methods. Students get acquainted with statistics terminology, measurement scale characteristics and their samples, most common data compiling and graphic interpretation methods, statistical indices and various types of statistics methods and opportunities of their implementation. The successful acquisition of the course is based on previous knowledge in mathematics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and the obtained life experience and cognitive strive. The knowledge and skills acquired during this study course, students further develop by such study courses as basic management, and intended for qualification practice task completing and practice report writing.
