ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT
The aim of this research is to identify the factors that influence academic optimism in secondary schools. The research was carried out in the phenomenological design of qualitative research methods. The data were collected through a focus group interview, a structured group interview technique designed to identify participants' detailed knowledge and ideas. The study groups consisted of seven middle school principals and seven middle school teachers selected by maximum variety sampling method. The focus group interviews were recorded on video and the speeches were analyzed and written. The first focus group interview was conducted with school principals and then teachers. The data were analyzed by content analysis. Findings as a result of the analysis, were integrated into the themes self-efficacy, academic emphasis and teachers' trust in the students and their parents. Factors that determine the influence academic optimism on secondary school outcomes include: (Self-Efficacy theme) The school’s physical properties and equipment, number of students in the classes, number of students in the school, instruction methods, teacher features -seniority, gender, feeling of success, team work, teacher’s socio-economic situation and private life-, teacher’s’ professional development levels, performance evaluation system. (Academic Emphasis theme) School culture, the transition system from primary secondary school, expectance of the parents, rotation, management practices -supportive approaches, school principal’s fairness, punishment and reward, school principal’s communication and management skills, decision making, trust in school principals, considering the staff-. (Teacher’s Trust in Students and Parents theme) Number of foreign national students, number of inclusive students, level based classes practices, parent’s socio-economic situation, parents’ and students’ trust in school and teacher’s, parent-teacher and parent-school communication, complaints and inquiry.

ABSTRACT
Knowledge of the physical and psychological environments that trigger creativity and innovation in individuals is thought to be beneficial in terms of organizing training environments. Creativity can be described briefly as thinking outside the box. Innovation is; to produce goods or services for the benefit of society. The concepts of creativity and entrepreneurship are more and more involved in educational literature. The reasons for this increase are global competition and knowledge-based economy. The research aims to investigate how much the schools can contribute to this process. In the research process theories about creativity are explained. In addition, the characteristics of creative individuals and organizations have been tried to be revealed. It is believed that knowledge of the conditions that bring about creativity and innovation is important in terms of educational organizations. This research in the screening model is a case study from qualitative research design. A case study is a case in which a current phenomenon works in its own real-life framework and examines situations in a versatile, systematic and in- is an empirical research method. In the research process, the literature on creativity and innovation in education was searched and the findings emerged.

ABSTRACT
Energy is a concept which is directly or indirectly related to many concepts in sciences and we are constantly intertwined with it daily life. It is an abstract concept because of it isn’t tangible and visible and at the same time it is a complex concept because of it is subject of all sciences. Energy isn’t only a scientific concept but also one of the socio-scientific issues that concern society. When considered in the context of engineering, energy is one of the most basic inputs to social and economic development. In this respect, it is important that the energy issue, which is the basic theme of science and engineering and forms the basis of sustainable development, is learned in a meaningful whole. In order to understand how to teach the concept of energy, first of all, it is necessary to determine how to structure energy in students’ minds. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to reveal cognitive structures of faculty of engineering students related to energy. Thus, it is possible to obtain results which might direct the teaching of energy by determining how to structure the concept of energy in the minds of faculty of engineering students who are practitioners of the energy concept. The research design was determined as descriptive survey model. The study population of the research is going to include third grade undergraduates from Necmettin Erbakan University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in 2017-2018 academic year. In the research, “Word Association Test (WAT)” is going to be used in order to reveal cognitive structures of students. In order to compose the word association test, 6 Keywords related to the concept of energy were selected. The key words which were selected for WAT are: energy, ATP, action, electromotive force, fission, station. By using the frequency table and concept map which is prepared by benefiting the answers given by students to the selected key words, answers to some questions about the way to be followed in the teaching of the energy concept will be sought by giving an idea about the deficiencies and mistakes about the present situation.
