ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the relationship between psychological maltreatment and investment model variables among married men and women in Turkey. Psychological Maltreatment of Women Inventory (PMWI) was used to assess the levels of mistreatment, inhibition, jealousy, and criticism that married people were exposed to by their spouses. Investment Model Scale (IMS) was used to collect data on satisfaction level, quality of alternatives, investment size, and commitment level. Finally, a questionnaire prepared by the researchers was used to collect data regarding demographic and relational information such as gender, age, occupational status, educational status, marriage duration, and number of children. First, correlations among PMWI and IMS variables were examined. Then, demographic and relational information were analyzed in relation to PMWI and IMS variables. In addition to comparisons and correlations, a structural equation model (SEM) of psychological maltreatment and investment model was finally tested for men and women. Results revealed that all of the correlations among the subscales of PMWI and IMS were significant except for the correlations between criticism and investments, inhibition and alternatives, and mistreatment and investments. Demographic and relational variables showed significant differences in most of the PMWI subscales and IMS variables. SEM findings revealed that psychological maltreatment explained a significant amount of the variance in commitment; furthermore, their relationship was partially mediated by satisfaction level, quality of alternatives, and investment size. Findings were discussed in the light of related literature, implications for practice were stated, and recommendations were made for researchers, counselors, counselor educators, policy makers, and public.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to develop a decision-making skill test for seventh grade students. The Decision Making Skill Test was prepared by considering the decision-making processes in the direction of the problems that the age group of the sample belongs to in everyday life. The test consists of four options with three distractors and one correct answer. Acquisition for decision-making skills test were established and 12 questions were prepared according to these acquisitions. Opinions from six experts in the field of science education (four academic staffs, one doctoral student and one expert science teacher) were taken into consideration. Some questions have been corrected in the direction of expert opinions. Two questions were subtracted from the test and the number of questions was reduced to 10. The pilot study of the test was carried out with 100 seventh grade students who were studying at public schools in Muğla city center in the academic year of 2017-2018. In this research, a survey model was selected a quantitative research design. The answers of questions in the Decision Making Skill Test were coded by giving a one to the correct option and zero for the false option. Statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS 21.0 statistical software. The reliability was determined with the Kuder-Richardson (KR-21) value and the Cronbach Alpha Reliability Coefficient was calculated as 0.707. Item analysis of Decision Making Skill Test was performed; item difficulty and discrimination indices were calculated. As a result, a valid and reliable measurement tool for seventh grade students' decision-making skills was developed.

ABSTRACT

Cervical cancer is the third most common cancer in the world. In order to prevent cervical cancer, it is important to evaluate women's attitudes towards protection. The aim of this study is to measure the cognitive, emotional and behavioral attitudes of women towards cervical cancer prevention. This study was conducted between 5 June and 1 September 2016 with 530 women selected by simple random sampling method registered in Afyonkarahisar Sandıklı Community Health Center. The data were collected with a survey form consisting of 29 questions and a Cervical Cancer Prevention Attitude Scale (CCPAS) consisting of 22 questions. The data were analyzed using t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and Tukey tests in SPSS statistical package program. Statistical significance level was accepted as 0.05. The average age of the women was 36.07 ± 9.56; the CCPAS mean scores of the women were found as 112.08 ± 26.04. Sixty percent of the women reported that they knew the pap smear test, and 37% had the pap smear test. When the women's stages of change for pap smear test are evaluated, 28.7% were in precontemplation, 34.5% were in contemplation, and 36.8% were in action stage. In statistical analysis, the CCPAS scores of women who have graduate education, who have private health insurance, who live in the city, who smoking, who have a regular gynecological examination, who know pap smear test, who in the stage of contemplation were found high (p <0.05). The age, the number of pregnancies, the number of births, the level of income, the presence of chronic diseases of the women did not affect the CCPAS scores (p> 0.05). The results of the study show that women do not participate sufficiently in the screening of the pap smear test. The education, counseling and screening services offered for early diagnosis of cervical cancer should be increased, positive attitudes should be supported, and behavior change should be protected.
