A method developed on the basis of the kinematic wave theory is presented which permits the simulation of the infiltration process by simple means, especially for conditions of heavy rainfalls resulting in Hortonian overland flow. The application of the suggested method is demonstrated by an example.

AB - ABSTRACT: Concealed porphyry copper-molybdenum target. High-grade mineralization. Drilling to date has delineated >260 million metric tons of hypogene ore averaging a little more than 1 percent Cu equivalent. The deposit is associated with a partly unroofed stock of biotite dacite porphyry, which was emplaced into broadly cogenetic andesitic and dacitic volcanic rocks during the Jurassic. A composite batholith of intermediate composition is located only 1.7 km from the deposit but was emplaced 30 to 40 m.y. earlier. The cylindrical orebody contains chalcopyrite, molybdenite, and local traces of bornite. The orebody is largely overlain by an essentially barren quartz-sericite-pyrite lithocap up to several hundred meters thick. High-grade copper-molybdenum ore is hosted by multiple hydrothermal breccias. Although the Mocoa porphyry system is overlain by a jarositic zone of partial leaching up to 260 m thick, rapid erosion during the late Cenozoic precluded generation of a significant zone of supergene chalcocite enrichment. The high precipitation caused nearly complete removal of abundant hypogene anhydrite and supergene gypsum to depths of at least 900 m.--Modified journal abstract.

AB - ABSTRACT: Komatiitic rocks from Gorgona Island, Colombia, in contrast to their Archean counterparts, occur as rather structureless flows. Textural and mineralogical features indicate that the Gorgona komatiites may have crystallized from superheated liquids. Komatiitic rocks have MgO contents which range from 24 to 11 wt.% and plot on well-defined olivine (Fo (sub 90) ) control lines. Calculations show that potential evolved liquids (MgO<11 wt%) will be SiO (sub 2) -poor. Komatiites, in this case, cannot be regarded as parental to the associated tholeiitic basalt sequence. On the basis of REE concentrations and Sr, Nd isotopic compositions, the associated basalts are found to be of two types. One type (K-tholeiite) is characterized by noticeably fractionated REE patterns and relatively primitive isotopic compositions similar to those of the komatiites. K-tholeiites, together with komatiites, are regarded as comprising a distinctive komatiitic suite. REE patterns within this suite show progressive depletion in the LREE from K-tholeiites to komatiites, and represent increasingly higher degrees of melting of the same mantle source region. The other type, (T-tholeiite), representative of the bulk of the exposed basalt sequence, has flat REE patterns and relatively evolved isotopic compositions.
