Proposed a design approach similarly as in the auxiliary pictures of AVC (which is not profiled in AVC). It was agreed that we can proceed with technical work under the assumption that a similar approach can be used.

This document presents three use cases for medical imaging applications: interactive browsing in medical image content, export of medical image content from an archive, and transmission and storage of mixed content. Requirements for compression of medical image content in the context of HEVC range extensions are derived from this use cases and summarized, including: support for efficient coding of 12-bit, 14-bit, and 16-bit content, support for efficient reversible (i.e., lossless) and diagnostically acceptable irreversible coding, and support for efficient compression of mixed content.
