        1. Broadcast Implementation Issues

Toru Chinen, Sony, noted that azimuth values that “alias” (e.g. > 180 degrees) should be avoided. The presenter proposed to check the ADM specification to see it has this issue, or if it is only in the MHAS proposal, in which case it can be addressed in the proposed text.

Johannes Boehm, Technicolor, noted that there are some aspects of meta-data driven actions in the HOA decoder that he would like to check in the context of new ADM meta-data.

Johannes Boehm, Technicolor, asked if the intent of the proposal was to carry the metadata or to also mandate actions based on the metadata?

The presenter noted that the syntax never has ambiguity between the current meta data syntax and the proposed syntax, and in general if ADM is read in, then it is used. In other words, the normative decoding behavior for some of the added elements is currently undefined or not supported at the decoder.Furthermore, there are cases where metadata is just carried, and others where it is carried and acted on (e.g. screen size).

Gregory Pallone, Orange, asked, concerning the meta-data that is carried but not acted on, will there be

  • A future normative action in 3D Audio

  • A normative interface in 3D Audio to produce the metadata

It was the consensus of the Audio subgroup to incorporate this technology into MPEG-H Phase 2.

The Audio subgroup looks forward to additional information at the next meeting on these issues

  • Azimuth values that “alias” with respect to 3D Audio specification or ADM specification

  • Whether meta-data driven actions are appropriate

Max Neuendorf, FhG-IIS, presented

        1. m36533

        1. Improvements to MPEG-H 3D audio for use in broadcast ecosystems

        1. Max Neuendorf, Manuel Jander, Achim Kuntz, Klaus Berghammer, Christian Ertel

The presenter noted that MPEG-H 3D Audio is a candidate for audio in the ATSC 3.0 standard. In the course of working within that application standards group, e.g. in constructing real-time demonstrations, several potential improvements to the 3D Audio specification were identified, which are captured in this contribution.

The prenter noted that, concerning truncation of audio presentation units (e.g. as in m36544), contrary to what is stated in the contribution, there is no necessity that mixing be done in time domain.
