Accuracy of the complexity metrics was studied using the metadata generator for the reference bitstreams in m36398.
The complexity model is most accurate for entropy decoding (98%), then interpolation filtering (95%), intra prediction (90%), deblocking filter (88%), interpolation filter (95%). The IDCT modeling is least accurate at 60%.
For intra prediction, the accuracy for I-frames needs further study because the number of cycles consumed is highly variable.
For the interpolation filter, the accuracy needs to be confirmed after the 10% improvement mentioned in m36398 is implemented.
The proponents are encouraged to study energy consumption over a wide range of bitstreams such as those used for the CfP.
