1MPEG-2 video frame-compatible 3D stereo video indicator
13818-2:2000/PDAM4 defines a way to send supplemental information to indicate "frame compatible" frame packing arrangements for 3D stereo video, following a similar approach for MPEG-2 Video as was defined for AVC. It was suggested to enable this capability as a user data extension that includes a fixed-value 4-byte pattern after the user_data_start_code to avoid conflicts with existing systems. The amendment was progressed to DAM ballot at this meeting. As suggested by a USNB ballot comment, the method of signalling this in the user data will be normatively specified. A contribution M18813 had been submitted to also include support for another (“quincunx”) method of packing in this amendment. It was not supported by an NB comment and was not included in the DAM ballot text.
It is planned to publish a new edition of MPEG-2 part 2 after finalization of this amendment.
