3Development of AVC (DAM1 and DCOR)

The video subgroup held one discussion session together with the Requirements subgroup and VCEG (ITU-T Q6/SG16) to discuss subjects related to MPEG-2 video (discussed above), AVC, and HEVC. For AVC, the progressing of DAM1 (Progressive High Profile) and a corrigendum to correct various minor errors in the text of the standard were addressed, as described in this section of this report. The HEVC-related aspects of that discussion are reported in the Requirements and JCT-VC reports.

During the preceding (Guangzhou) meeting, one contribution had requested for the specification of the new Progressive High Profile to include imposing further restrictions on level 4.2 and higher levels. The specification of an additional new, similarly-constructed “Progressive Main Profile” was also suggested in the same contribution. Based on feedback from several NBs, these changes were not made.
Two NBs requested definition of a new "level 5.2" which would enable 4Kx2K spatial resolution at 60 fps. This definition was included in the text issued for DAM1 ballot, and a change of title was requested to include mention of this new level in the title.
Consensus was reached that a DCOR1 for AVC (based on the Defect Report of the last meeting) would be issued as an output document from Daegu for ballot. This had been requested by the USNB.
Action on MVC software and conformance (M19284) is planned for the next meeting.
