m35081 Clarifications on DASH EssentialProperty

Summary: the EssentialProperty definition in not “strong” enough in terms of conformance.

Disposition: Noted. The definition is intentionally defined that way to describe the content properties and not specific client behavior. The conformance rule for essential property is clear and well defined. We agree though that essential property shall not be used for adding new non-conforming elements to the MPD in future version of the spec.
