MAIN FEATURES OF SOCIAL WORK WITH PERSONS WITH DOWN SYNDROME
Summary
Each
age group has its own problems, and they do not go unnoticed by children.
Unfortunately, among these problems, the ones that pose the most threat to society and are always
in concern are those related to health. As we know, the rapid
development of science and
technology has also had a positive impact on medicine and new achievements have been made.
However, unfortunately, the modern health care system is still vulnerable to some diseases and it is
impossible to completely eliminate them. Down syndrome also belongs to this group. The causes of
the syndrome, its effects on people, the mechanisms of treatment have always been one of the main
issues attracting the attention of the world community. Because the effects of Down syndrome on
each
individual are different, medical professionals have constantly
researched the subject and
identified various social, biological, and psychological aspects of the treatment process. It should be
noted that in most civilized countries of the world, people with Down syndrome and their relatives
are considered the main objects
of social services, because the syndrome brings not
only physical
and biological problems, but also socio-psychological difficulties. The socialization and integration
of people with Down syndrome is of great importance, as well as the need for social services and
professionals working in this field. The socialization of individuals in this
category is carried out
directly by social workers in the field of social work.
