AND01 – PANORAMIC TOUR OF ÅNDALSNES VIA TROLL WALL


Duration: approx 3 hours

Surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks and situated on the shores of Romsdalsfjord, the modern town of Åndalsnes is the final stop on the Rauma railway line. This scenic coach tour first takes you along the salmon-rich River Rauma with views to either side of Romsdalshornet (1,550 m) and Trolltindane (Troll Peaks, approx. 1,800 m). A chance to get a closer look at the Trollveggen (Troll Wall), a sheer vertical rock face rising to a height of more than 1,000 m, is also part of the itinerary. Continuing on over Sogge Bridge to the mountain-flanked Isterdal Valley, you will then reach the Trollstigen (Troll’s Ladder) and its 11 hair-raising hairpin bends, which were blasted out of the mountainside. After a photo stop at the Stigfossen Waterfall, further fabulous views await you at Trollstigheimen, the highest point on your tour. Your outing concludes with your return to the quay in Åndalsnes.



Please note: there are an optional 81 steps to the lower viewing platform at Trollstigheimen. Limited number of guides in languages other than English. AND02 – BJORLI BY COACH AND TRAIN

Duration: approx. 3 hours

Set on the shores of Romsdalsfjord, Åndalsnes is the terminus of the Rauma railway line and surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks. Starting by train, the route follows the course of the River Rauma, known for its excellent salmon and attractive waterfalls, with views to either side of Romsdalshorn (1550 m) and Trolltindane (Troll Peaks, approx. 1800 m) as well as the so-called Troll Wall. Kylling Bridge, impressively engineered to consist solely of natural stone, affords an exciting view of the 180-ft drop and the white-water river flowing below. From Bjorli, located at 574 metres above sea level, the tour continues by coach through one of Norway’s loveliest valleys, mountains peaks rising up on both sides. Upon reaching the 1,000-m Troll Wall, a stop will be made to take photos of the highest vertical rock face in Europe. A further stop will be made at the Slettafossen Waterfall before you return to the landing stage in Åndalsnes.



Please note: the excursion includes a train ride through a series of long tunnels and a drive along a very steep and curvy road. Some groups will start the tour by train and end the tour by coach and vice versa. This tour is not suitable for guests who are claustrophobic, have mobility problems or are in a wheelchair. Limited number of guides in languages other than English. Should a tour guide for your language be unavailable, the tour will be provided in English only.

ARGOSTOLI (Greece)
If the name of Argostoli doesn’t sound familiar to holiday-makers, the name ‘Cefalonia’ (or ‘Kefalonia’) almost certainly will, as this island is the setting for the immensely popular film and novel, ‘Captain Corelli's Mandolin’.
ARG01 – NORTHERN ISLAND DRIVE

Duration: 4.5 hours

This leisurely half day off the ship begins with a scenic drive around the enchanting Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian islands that is well known for its population of loggerhead turtles, an endangered species, and their nesting sites at Kaminia beach. Photo stops will made at Myrtos beach, where the sea is an incredible turquoise colour, and Assos, a pretty little fishing village with a natural harbour and beach. After a little time to enjoy the scenery and lovely views, the tour continues on to Fiscardo, another picturesque fishing village that, along with the surrounding dense forestation, has been declared an area of great natural beauty that is protected under Greek law. You will have some time to explore the village before you begin your return journey back to Argostoli and your ship.



ARG02 – PANORAMIC TOUR & MELISSANI CAVES

Duration: 4.5 hours

Leave the port of Argostoli and drive to the Monastery of St. Andrew where we will have some free time before heading to Melissani Caves. The name of the caves comes from the Greek nymph Melissanthi. The cave is B-shaped with two halls filled with water and an islet in the middle; the lake water is a mixture of sea water and fresh water. As sightseeing is thirsty work, our next stop will be for a wine tasting session at Robola before continuing to the village of Sami where you can relax at your leisure. Capture memories of your day out with photo stop at the picturesque Myrthos beach.


ARG03 – DROGARATI CAVES & MYRTOS BEACH

Duration: 4.5 hours

A 45-minute bus drive will take you to one of the most stunning cave complexes in the world discovered following an earthquake 300 years ago. Admire the numerous stalactites and stalagmites created more than 100 million years ago, with an exceptional walk through the accessible part of the cave to the stunning cavern known as the “Apotheosis Chamber” due to its excellent acoustics. We will continue with a 45-minute transfer to the pristine Myrtos beach, a wide, graceful arc of shimmering sand and pebbles protected by staggeringly steep cliffs. Free time here and a chance to swim in the sea.



Please note: the tour includes walking on uneven ground; due to the strong currents at Myrtos beach it is advisable to remain close to the shore while swimming. Beach chair and sun umbrella are not included; you have the possibility to rent them on the spot. This tour operates from June through all September.
ARRECIFE (Spain)
Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands located off the northwest coast of Africa.
Holiday-makers will be struck by Lanzarote’s incredibly
unique landscape which is quite unlike anywhere else in the world! Come ashore and witness Lanzarote’s extraordinary scenery for yourself and marvel at the lava landscapes, rich fertile soil and lush vegetation that flourishes here.

ACF01 - NORTHERN TOUR OF THE ISLAND

Duration: approx. 4 hours

No one can fail to be intrigued by one of Lanzarote’s more unusual attractions; the strange blind white crabs that are native only to this island. We will take a coach to Teguise to visit the historic cave complex of Jameos del Agua where the tiny albino sea creatures live in a seawater lake within the cave chambers. This unique colony of eye-less crustaceans are an example of successful natural evolution, having adapted to their environment after being trapped in the caves following pre-historic earthquake activity.



ACF02 - TIMANFAYA NATIONAL PARK

Duration: approx. 4 hours

Lanzarote’s unique ‘Martian’ landscapes are shown off to their best in the spectacular Timanfaya National Park. Forged from years of volcanic eruptions, nature has shaped this island’s scenery which is a compelling mix of petrified lava fields and lush vegetation. The largest eruption took place in the 1730s and some volcanic activity still continues today; at Islote de Hilario for example, we will admire the steaming geysers typical of the volcanic nature of the island. Enjoy a scenic drive back to the port through the pretty vineyards that thrive in Arrecife’s climate and which flourish in the island’s mineral-rich sand dunes.

ACF06 - LANZAROTE & MANRIQUE HERITAGE

Duration: approx. 4.5 hours

Join us for a day of art and architecture and an excursion themed around Cesar Manrique, one of the pioneers of Spanish modern art and former resident of the island from 1968 until his death here in 1992. We will head for the atmospheric “Jardin de Cactus” (cactus garden), one of the last finished works of the artist and architect Cesar Manrique. Manrique’s famous structural style is displayed in the cactus gardens which are set in a sweeping arched quarry. The 10,000 cacti from all over the world have made these Gardens a symbol of the island’s artistic heritage. The Cactus Garden is located on the road to Mala, an area where cacti are encouraged, as they feed the parasitic cochineal beetles. These insects have been cultivated here for over 100 years and are valued for their colorant properties. Our tour continues at the Cesar Manrique Foundation located in the artist’s former home, ‘El Taro de Tahiche’ (“Taro” is a local word for cement-free, dry-stone constructions). Look around the Foundation before proceeding to the nearby El Patio Museum to learn more about traditions and life on Lanzarote.


ACF08 – SUBMARINE EXPERIENCE

Duration: approx. 3 hours

A unique opportunity that will reveal the beauty of the underwater world. A 25-minute coach drive will take you to Marina Puerto Calero, located in the outskirts of Puerto del Carmen. Puerto Calero is much more than a marina; it offers a wide selection of bars and restaurants on the waterfront and will be the starting point of your submarine adventure. Before boarding the submarine you will receive a short safety briefing so that you could enjoy the beauty of the underwater world in perfect relax. Your 1-hour underwater trip will allow you to admire the unexplored waters of Puerto Calero with its amazing submarine life. Back on the land you will have a little free time in Puerto Calero before returning to the port.



Please note: this tour is considered to be unsuitable for pregnant women as well as for guests with mobility, heart or hearing problems or who use a wheelchair. Guests must be at least 3 years of age to take part. It’s necessary to step down a ladder with 7 steps. Information onboard the submarine only in English.

ACF09 – TREKKING ON MOONSCAPE

Duration: approx. 4.5 hours

For it’s volcanic nature perfectly preserved due to the island arid climate, Arrecife is a real paradise to trekking lovers. Meet your local guide and enjoy a 45-minute drive to the National Park, the place where your amazing adventure will begin. On a 3-hour trekking you will follow a route full of volcanoes and will have the opportunity to admire spectacular craters, lava flows and lakes and spot out some lava tunnels on the way. Do not forget your camera to catch unforgettable moonscape scenery.

Return to the port.

Please note: this tour is considered to be unsuitable for guests with walking difficulties. The trekking route covers approx. 6 km and reaches an elevation of 150 metres. Sturdy trekking shoes are recommended. This tour is not suitable for children.
BARCELONA (Spain)
Barcelona is Spain’s second-largest city and the capital of the Catalonia region. A wonderfully vibrant city and a cultural and artistic centre since the Middle Ages, Barcelona makes for a fantastic out, whether for a few hours or a whole day.
BCN01 - CITY TOUR

Duration: 4 hours

Take some time to discover beautiful Barcelona on this enjoyable sightseeing tour of the city. Your Barcelona experience begins at the spectacular Cathedral of the Holy Cross and St. Eulalia, the construction of which began at the end of the 13th and continued into the 15th century. The Cathedral is situated in Barcelona’s Barri Gòtic quarter, the city’s largely intact medieval centre. The coach will also drive past two of the famous works by the architect Gaudí for external viewings of the Sagrada Família and the Casa Batlló. Your tour will be rounded off by a stroll around the tranquil Poble Espanyol, a village purpose-built to showcase Spain’s many different architectural styles, and a brief stop at Montjuich Hill for the fabulous views of the city from the Belvedere del Alcalde. Your tour concludes with your return to the ship.



Please note: the Cathedral visit may have to be cancelled on public holidays or if special events are being held. Conservative attire is recommended for visiting places of religious importance.
BCN02 - PANORAMIC TOUR & SHOPPING

Duration: 4 hours

The fabulous city of Barcelona is well worth a visit and this whistle-stop tour will take you to see the key sights during an enjoyable half day off the ship. Upon leaving the port, your tour begins with a drive through Barcelona's main streets and squares. A short stop will be made at Montjuich Hill to take in the superb view over the city before moving on for a brief external viewing of the Sagrada Família, Gaudí’s striking yet unfinished neo-Gothic masterpiece. There will also be time to pay the impressive Barcelona Cathedral, which was constructed from the end of the 13th until into the 15th century, a visit before taking you to go shopping in the Plaça de Catalunya, a large square in central Barcelona that is ideal for a little retail therapy.



Please note: on public holidays or on Sunday afternoon, the shopping stop will be at the “La Rambla”.
BCN03 - GAUDI’S EXPERIENCE

Duration: 4 hours

Don’t miss your chance to immerse yourself in the fascinating world and works of Barcelona’s premiere architect: the world-famous Antoni Gaudí. After leaving the port, your tour will take you down the beautiful Passeig de Gràcia avenue for an outside view of Casa Batlló, a flamboyant building that is covered in thousands of multi-coloured tiles. Up next is Casa Milà, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for another exterior visit, followed by the Park Güell, a garden complex and one of Barcelona’s key tourist attractions due to its remarkable, sinuous buildings, stunning mosaics and ceramic-covered benches. The excursion also includes time to visit inside Gaudí’s unfinished neo-Gothic masterpiece, the Sagrada Família. Your tour ends with a scenic return drive to the port.

BCN05 - PANORAMIC CITY TOUR & NOU CAMP STADIUM

Duration: 3.5 hours

Thanks to the sheer scale of its impressive architecture, Barcelona’s Camp Nou Stadium – one of the world’s most famous football temples and the largest stadium in all of Europe with a capacity to seat nearly 100,000 people – is a fascinating destination, whether you are a soccer fan or not. Apart from hosting numerous key UEFA matches throughout the years, the stadium has also been used to stage other events, including concerts given by such major pop artists as Sting, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman or U2. In 1982, Pope John Paul II even celebrated mass at the stadium, on which occasion he was made an honorary citizen of Barcelona. Your tour begins with a drive-by sightseeing tour past Gaudi’s Sagrada Família, a minor basilica, and up Montjuich Hill before arriving at Camp Nou Stadium.



Please note: the feasibility of the tour is subject to the schedule of the football club and then the stadium could be closed with very short notice; for this reason the tour could be cancelled even the day before our call for reasons beyond MSC’s control. The visit to the stadium includes walking upstairs and downstairs and is not suitable for guests with walking difficulties or using a wheelchair. This tour is no available on calls falling on a Sunday afternoon.
BCN08 - MONTSERRAT

Duration: 4.5 hours

Situated approx. 1 hour by coach from the port of Barcelona lies Montserrat, a mountain-top Benedictine Monastery that forms the highest point of the Catalonian lowlands. Santa Maria de Montserrat, to give the monastery its official name, is a key Catholic pilgrimage site and a favourite destination for religious retreats. Apart from being home to a statue of the Virgin of Montserrat – also known as the Black Madonna or La Moreneta – the monastery boasts a basilica with a resplendent interior that stands in stark contrast to its somewhat austere exterior. Interestingly, the monastery also hosts a publishing house that counts as one of the world’s oldest still functioning presses, with the first book having been printed in 1499. You will have time to look around by yourself before returning to Barcelona.



Please note: the guide will give explanation only outside the Monastery; guests will visit the site individually. Conservative attire is recommended for visiting the religious site. Shooting videos or taking photos during the visit to the Monastery is prohibited.
BCN10 - FLAMENCO SHOW

Duration: 4 hours

This tour lets you simply sit back and relax on the coach while you enjoy drive-by viewings of Barcelona’s main sights, including the magnificent Passeig de Gràcia and Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece, the Sagrada Família, which was consecrated as a minor basilica by the Pope in 2010. Continuing up to Montjuich Hill, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city below and after a photo stop, head for Poble Espanyol, a unique open-air architectural museum situated on the hill. The museum was originally constructed for the Barcelona International Exhibition in 1929 with the aim of mimicking a townscape that would reflect the architecture, style and culture typical of various Spanish regions in a single place. A 30-minute flamenco show accompanied by a fruity sangria punch rounds off your tour.



BCN12 – HIKING IN COLLSEROLA NATURAL PARK

Duration: 5 hours

A green oasis in the midst of one of the Mediterranean coast’s most densely populated urban areas, Collserola Natural Park gained national park status in 2010 and is now a protected area. After being transferred to the park (30-min. drive), a professional mountain guide will accompany you on a journey through natural diversity. Besides the park’s astounding landscapes, the tour also offers a unique high-up perspective of Barcelona’s world-famous architecture, including the Sagrada Familia basilica, Camp Nou stadium and 38-storey Torre Agbar. You will pass by the Collserola Tower, designed by Sir Norman Foster for the 1992 Summer Olympics, before arriving at the summit of Tibidabo. This 512m peak overlooks the city and is the site of the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, a modernist church, where the bus awaits you for the return trip to the port.



Please note: as this tour includes an 8km trail walk, we recommend wearing hiking shoes and bringing water. This tour is not suitable for passengers with walking difficulties. Tour guides in English or Spanish only. This tour operates from June until the end of September.
BCN21 – HIGHLIGHTS OF BARCELONA, MONTSERRAT & WINE TASTING

Duration: approx. 7.5 hours, lunch not included

Celebrated the world over for its fabulous architecture, Barcelona is yours to enjoy as your coach first takes you around the city’s main sights on this all-day Catalan experience. The route will take you down Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona’s main boulevards, for an outside visit to Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece, the incredible Sagrada Família. Leaving the breathtaking basilica behind, a location of equally awe-inspiring proportions is next: the jagged sandstone columns of the Montserrat Mountains and the abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat, an impressive complex of buildings that affords glorious views of the countryside below. A key Catholic pilgrimage site and popular as a religious retreat, the abbey not only hosts a statue of the Virgin of Montserrat, aka the Black Madonna, but also a basilica with an ornately decorated interior. Some time to soak up the beguiling surroundings and have lunch (not included in the price of the tour) then follows, after which your travels continue by coach to the village of Sant Sadurni and the Cavas Vilarnau wine cellars. Apart from a chance to see how wine, sparkling wine and the bottle-fermented Spanish cava are made, you will also be able to please your palate during the tasting session that concludes your visit. The relaxing return drive to your ship brings your Catalonian outing to a close.
