Duties




As Regional Director you are responsible for the commercial management of the region and its associated business lines consistent with DHA and Defence requirements, industry standards, governance, regulations, service agreements and DHA’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). DHA’s regionally represented business lines include property provisioning, leasing, housing allocations, property management, tenancy management, and contract management.


This role partners with the National Management and the Regional Senior Management team to monitor and report on the operational and financial health of the regions business line performance against KPIs. As part of the Regional Senior Management team, you are responsible for your regions strategic planning, business sustainability framework implementation and delivery of high-level customer service across your regions business lines. The role is responsible for the provision of portfolio management outcomes suitable for your regions strategic plan. DHA places a strong emphasis on all Management teams working collaboratively to provide nationally consistent services across all business lines in accordance with DHA polices, procedures and service agreements.
Your role provides strategic direction and leadership to the region and supports the regional staff to cohesively achieve operational performance targets. Your responsibilities include mentoring staff on workforce performance, asset management, decision making within policy, commercial judgment and contract management. As a member of the Senior Management team you are responsible for ensuring that your region delivers high level customer service solutions to our Defence regional clients.
This role attends high level network events and meetings and represents DHA’s business interests to external stakeholders, Defence members and their families. Your excellent communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills will support your business decisions in complex client matters.
This role is responsible for identifying and implementing continuous improvement processes across the region that will strengthen the regions capacity to meet Defence’s needs now and in the future.

Eligibility


The remuneration package is negotiable and includes a base salary, potential performance bonus and Commonwealth funded superannuation. Employment with DHA is conditional on successful applicants demonstrating that they are an Australian citizen, meeting the required medical standards, achieving a satisfactory character clearance and obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.

The Department of Defence is seeking to fill the Senior Executive Service Band 2 position of the First Assistant Secretary Defence Industry Policy in the Strategic Policy and Intelligence Group. The position is based in Canberra.
The First Assistant Secretary Defence Industry Policy provides strategic industry policy advice to the Minister, Secretary and the Chief of the Defence Force and implements the Government’s objectives for Defence industry policy. This includes managing Defence’s arms and export control obligations and the new Defence Innovation Hub which fosters closer collaboration between Defence and industry.
In accordance with the Defence Leadership Behaviours, to be a strong contender for this position, you will be a flexible and collaborative leader who is prepared to take calculated risks. You will be resilient, have proven high level communication skills and be personally accountable for the quality of advice and the delivery of results. You will be self-aware, positive in considering and respecting a diversity of ideas and perspectives, and have the courage to challenge the status quo when it does not serve the required outcome.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence Senior Executive Service Band 2 salary range.


Eligibility


Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for ongoing appointment, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This position is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to the appropriate level.
