1344 1911 First UK Aerial Post grey-black postcard (creases & tones) to Maitland NSW, underfranked at ½d (UK local rate) tied by special cds code 1 dated "SP 11 1911", & taxed 1d double deficiency. The third day of the event when the Farman-type piloted by C. Hubert crashed because of engine failure on take off. The plane was completely destroyed, & Hubert broke both legs. This is the earliest powered flight "crash" item to Australia (Nierinck 110911), only one other example to Australia recorded. (P) $1400 $2000
