Scholarships and Financial Aid – November 2016
The University of Texas at Austin – is a scholarship initiative aimed at supporting the success of hard-working, economically disadvantage Texas high school students. Texas Advance programs include the University Leadership Network, Longhorn Pre-College Academy and Presidential Scholars. Most awards are $20,000 ($5,000 a year for four years); that amount, when combined with other federal and state aid, is enough to pay the entire cost of tuition, fees and books for students with significant financial need. Students in selected programs also get the chance to participate in one or more of our invitation – only academic learning communities. In order to qualify for consideration, students must:
Submit a complete application for admissions by October 15, 2016, for priority consideration.
Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Dec. 1, 2016 for priority consideration.

The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest- is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their state boards of education. United States citizenship is not required. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation) to an outstanding degree.
Only one student per year may be honored as a school’s DAR Good Citizen. Each school’s DAR Good Citizen receives a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate and wallet recognition card. This student is eligible, if he/she wishes, to enter the DAR Good Citizens scholarship contest. The DAR Good Citizens scholarship contest consists of two parts. Part I consists of the student describing how he/she has tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. This part may be completed at home and is to be submitted together with a grade transcript and two letters of recommendation.
Applications are available in the counseling center A125 and are due on November 4, 2016.
