Recent Industry Developments – Gawler
-
Horticulture business d’VineRipe is investing $30 million to expand its hi-tech greenhouse at Two Wells. Production of tomatoes will increase from 10,000 tonnes per annum to more than 15,000 tonnes. The expansion will create 100 jobs. (News Review, 13 June 2012)
-
Penrice is selling its limestone quarry at Angaston to reduce debt and improve the company’s overall financial position. The mine’s 60-70 employees face an uncertain future should the sale go ahead. (Barossa Herald, 30 May 2012)
-
Orlando Wines will cut 85 employees from its workforce over the next twelve months. It is expected that most of the job losses will be at the company’s Rowland Flat facility. The downsizing relates to a move towards premium wines rather than large volumes. (Barossa Herald, 9 May 2012)
-
Nuriootpa-based company Perry Trade Services has gone into administration, with the loss of 52 jobs. The business is being offered for sale, either in part or as a whole. The global financial crisis and a downturn in the wine industry are being blamed for the business becoming unprofitable. (Barossa Herald, 7 March 2012)
-
Construction at the Springwood housing development in Gawler East is underway. The 10-year project will include 2500 homes on a 219 acre development, including a village centre with shops and cafes, sports ovals, parks and natural spaces. The Lend Lease project is valued at more than $1 billion. (Barossa Herald, 22 February 2012)
-
Work has commenced on the 750-home Orleana Waters housing development at Evanston Gardens. The 59ha estate will house more than 2000 residents over the next seven years. Divine SA is developing the $240 million project. (News Review, 15 February 2012)
-
Seppeltsfield wines has purchased a 60 per cent stake in the Barossa Vines Limited Group, making it the largest vineyard holder in the Barossa Valley. A substantial expansion in wine production is expected to occur, with a focus on export markets, particularly China and India. (The Advertiser, 26 October 2011)
