Steve Jobs was born in 1955 and put up for adoption by his birth parents. He was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1972 he dropped out of college and in 1974 he traveled through India studying Zen Buddhism in his quest for enlightenment.
He is recognized for his work in the area of personal computer revolution in the 1970s and 1980s. He founded Apple with his business partner Steve Wozniak. After being forced to leave Apple, Jobs took some of the staff with him and founded NeXT, a computer platform development company. He also helped to develop the visual effects industry by funding the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm. The company, Pixar, produced the first 3D computer animated film – Toy Story. Jobs is a majority shareholder of Pixar.
1n 1997 Jobs became the CEO of Apple and was tasked with helping to revive Apple from the verge of bankruptcy. He worked with a partner to design iMac, iTunes, iPod, iPhone, iPad, and the App Store.
Jobs died at the age of 56 in 2011. He had been diagnosed with a tumor and died of respiratory arrest.
