Participant 16: Elsag Datamat S.P.A., ED
Elsag Datamat (www.elsagdatamat.com) is the new business concern established to act as a centre of excellence for the design and production of systems, services and solutions in automation, security, transport, defence & space, information technology. Resulting from the integration of Elsag and Datamat in 2007, Elsag Datamat is a company in the Finmeccanica group, one of the world's leading industrial conglomerates. The professional skills of 4,000 employees, technology, know-how, the capacity to operate in critical contexts, and an innovative approach demonstrated by constant investment in Research & Development, are just some of the distinctive features developed over more than a century in business. The ability to identify problems and design solutions, combined with skills and experience in mechanical and information technology, put Elsag Datamat in the ideal position to develop new products and systems as it works to achieve its goal of Italian leadership and global recognition on reference markets. Elsag Datamat have past and current experiences in relevant R&D activities, having participated into several national and international projects both in the frame of Research Infrastructures (e.g. DataGRID, EGEE, EGEE-II) and in the context of Grid-based Problem Solving Environments and Software Services solutions also in business contexts (e.g. NextGRID, AKoGriMo, BREIN, THE VOICE, GDCD).

Specific role in the project:

NA2: Elsag Datamat will lead the business outreach and technology transfer tasks in this activity and will also be responsible for the business requirements analysis in order to implement and deploy selected Business-driven Grid Services

JRA1: Engineering, R&D and standardisation activities on Job Services, mainly gLite WMS. Support to INFN-ED coordination.
Profile of Key Personnel:

Stefano Beco is Project Manager with 19 year’s experience, with a solid technical background gained from his participation in several International projects, mainly in the development of Command & Control software and in Remote Sensing Satellites Ground Segment and the Earth Observation Users Services areas. Since 2000 he is mainly involved in Grid R&D, being involved as senior scientist and project manager in several European projects funded by EC (EU-DataGRID, EU-CrossGrid, EGEE-I and II, NextGRID, AKoGriMo, BREIN, OneStopGov) and ESA (SpaceGRID, THE VOICE, GDCD). Since Jan 2005 he is Head of an R&D Group where all Environment, Space and Grid research projects are carried on.

Fabrizio Pacini has skills and competencies which include object oriented analysis and design, programming in C++, C, Java and Python, database skills in PL-SQL RDBMS, Oracle and Ingres, interoperability protocols and experience of Unix and Linux. He started his activities in the Elsag Datamat Grid R&D team leading Elsag Datamat team working on EU-DataGrid WP1 activities, related to middleware development. Then he participated and is still participating to EGEE projects as part of JRA1 Italian Cluster team, leading Elsag Datamat technical team involved in the adaptation to Web Services of some parts of the Workload Management System. He is also now leading Elsag Datamat activities on BREIN. He will participate to NA2 and JRA1 activities.

Alessandro Maraschini has skills and competencies including programming in C++, C, Python, Java, middleware environment like Globus Toolkit and Unix experience. He has worked in Grid environment since the mid 2001, participating to EU DataGrid project working in WP1 middleware development. His task was the development of User Interface on command line, the whole set of related API’s and he also contributed to the development of Graphical User Interface. In EGEE projects, as part of JRA1 he is responsible to maintain/restructure/enhance the User Interface also according to the new Service Oriented approach along with multi language related API's; he is now in charge of coordinating developers gLite restructuring activities. He will participate to JRA1 activities.
Participant 17: Trust-IT Services Ltd., TRUST-IT
TRUST-IT Services designs and delivers communication platforms for the ICT industry. It is made up of a multinational team which boasts a well-balanced mix of project management, communication, promotion and dissemination experience, business developments, networking skills and IT expertise, and strives to exploit opportunities among user/provider communities from industry, research and academia. By means of a variety of advanced tools and methodologies, TRUST-IT develops communication packages, supports promotion and dissemination activities, performs branding and marketing studies, designs and executes training programmes, organises and manages events, and raises awareness on promoting Research, Technology Development achievements internationally. TRUST-IT staff is able to offer added-value on developing and creating specific messaging to target the right business and enterprise in the Grid sectors.
Specific role in the project:

NA2: Deputy Activity Leader role. Input to Commercial Exploitation plan; Activity Management; support & prototype activities; strategic planning, marketing, development & dissemination for EGEE’s Programme for Business; organisation of Business Day events & the Business Track at EGEE annual conferences.
Profile of Key Personnel:

Silvana Muscella is Managing Director & founding partner of TRUST-IT Services focuses on high-level coordination & strategic developments on European collaborations on ICT. With over eleven years of hands-on experience in European, National & Regionally funded programmes & in project management & coordination, Silvana maintains an active interest in finding new user communities (scientific & enterprise) for potential Grid adoption. She collaborates with DG Information Society as a reviewer for FP5 & FP6 projects. Strategic support to FP6 projects: EGEE-II, EU-IndiaGrid, BELIEF & EchoGRID.

Sy Holsinger is responsible for TRUST-IT’s business development & works directly with clientele on an international platform to evaluate opportunities & analyse & define business strategies. Sy has comprehensive experience & knowledge in both research & industry fields. He has extended his managerial qualifications & experience to EU-funded projects that has led to chairing the Business Track on the programme committee for EGEE’07 & co-chairing EGEE-II’s Industry Forum Steering Committee, where he handles, interacts & networks with current industrial Grid users as well as attracting & informing new or potential industrial Grid adopters.

Stephanie Parker has extensive experiences of working with industry, research organisations & international press & media. As a collaborator for TRUST-IT for over two years, Stephanie's skills focus on industrial & media relations in the areas of ICT. As Chair of the EGEE-II Industry Forum, she has been part of the OGF20 Programme Committee and editor-in-chief of EGEE-II’s Industry Forum Newsletter. She co-ordinated the first European ICT Pavilion, CommunicAsia-EnterpriseIT, June 2007, Singapore through the EC funded BASIC project, facilitating enterprise in expanding their business networks. Since then she has provided strategic & logistic support to the FP6 projects BELIEF dealing with India & Latin America e-Infrastructures, EU-IndiaGrid, & EchoGRID. Stephanie was co-ordinator of the 1st EchoGRID-EUChinaGRID International Conference, April 2007, Beijing, China.

Participant 18: Helsingin Yliopisto, UH.HIP
The University of Helsinki, Helsinki Institute of Physics (UH.HIP) is a physics research institute that is operated jointly by the biggest polytechnic school and three leading universities in Finland. The research activity at the institute covers an extensive range of subjects in theoretical physics and experimental subatomic physics. The mandate of the institute is to carry out and facilitate research in basic and applied physics as well as in physics research and technology development at international accelerator laboratories. The institute is responsible for the Finnish research collaboration with CERN. UH.HIP and its Technology Programme has participated in EU funded Grid projects in FP5 and FP6, namely in EU-DataGrid, EU-EGEE and EU-EGEE-II. UH.HIP has been responsible namely for Security related Joint Research Activities (JRA), taking part in numerous working groups and task forces. Since EGEE-II UH.HIP has been leading the JRA1 (middleware) activities for deputy manager and Security middleware coordinator positions. UH.HIP is member of FennoGrid association, and works closely with CSC under MoU for building the Finnish LCG Tier-2 infrastructure mandated by Finnish Ministry of Education.
Specific role in the project:

SA3: Contribute to preview test bed work and certification of (Security) middleware products.

Profile of Key Personnel:

Dr John White EGEE-II JRA1 deputy manager and security middleware coordinator. Dr White, Senior scientist at UH.HIP, has worked for HIP Technology program for seven years and has participated in the Grid projects, EDG, EGEE and EGEE-II. He has worked in the area of Grid security in development and support. Currently serves on the EGEE-II boards TCG, EMT and PEB as well as the EGEE-OSG design team and MWSG

Joni Hahkala Senior scientist MSc.(CS) has been working for the HIP last 8 years and participated in Grid projects EDG, EGEE and EGEE II. He has been working on Grid security in many roles ranging from developer, integrator to northern cluster manager and has contributed to many working groups and task forces e.g. Middleware Security Group, Joint Security Policy Group, VO registration task force.
Participant 19: CSC - Tieteellinen Laskenta Oy
CSC, the Finnish Information Technology center for science, provides modeling, computing and information services for academia, research institutes and industry. CSC also maintains Funet, the Finnish University and Research Network, enabling fast connections between researchers and widest selection of scientific software and databases and most powerful supercomputers. CSC is administered by the Finnish Ministry of Education. Since EGEE-II CSC has contributed computing resources to the EGEE infrastructure. CSC develops a multiphysical simulation software ELMER which is now available for the earth science research community through the ESR Virtual Organisation.
Specific role in the project:

SA1: Running Finnish EGEE Grid services. Interoperation with national Grid and NDGF. Support for Finnish and Nordic user / application (e.g. ELMER in ESR VO) communities and local VO's.
Profile of Key Personnel:

Dr. Pekka Lehtovuori holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry. He leads the Grid-technologies group at CSC. He is responsible for the coordination of CSC's international and national Grid-infrastructure projects (e.g. DEISA, EGEE, NDGF, and Finnish national computing Grid, M-grid).
Participant 20: UNINETT Sigma AS, SIGMA
UNINETT Sigma coordinates the distributed Norwegian HPC infrastructure implemented by the Notur project (www.notur.no) and the national Grid initiative NorGrid (www.norgrid.no). Both projects provide compute and storage resources, operational support and end-user support. The resources are used by individuals and groups at the Norwegian universities, colleges, and research organizations. The support is coordinated between the collaborating centers that have established a common help-desk and ticketing system (based on Request Tracker) that is widely accepted by the user community to request support and report problems. The projects also maintain support pages and other end-user documentation about the resources and services provided by the infrastructure. UNINETT Sigma will be the lead contractor of the Norwegian JRU – NorGrid which will include six partners.
Specific role in the project:

NA4: Direct User Support: Responsible for Direct User Support in the Nordic federation. Regional support: Supplement main partner VR in the Nordic federation. Host and operates part of the Nordic Tier-1 resources and the Norwegian Tier-2 for ATLAS.
Profile of Key Personnel:

Dr. J. Koster is daily manager of UNINETT Sigma and overall coordinator of the national HPC and Grid projects in Norway. His field of expertise is in computer science and applied mathematics. Until recently, he has led the HPC center at the University of Bergen that operates and supports compute services used by researchers from all over Norway and by international projects (e.g., EGEE, HPC-Europa).

T. Mauset participates in the technical coordination of the Nordic Data

Grid Facility (NDGF) where he takes on tasks related to the operational monitoring of the overall health of the Nordic Tier-1 infrastructure. He is familiar with Grid middlewares in the Tier-1 context. Mauset also participates in the development of the national Grid infrastructure in NorGrid.

N/A: it is envisaged that UNINETT Sigma will recruit and educate a third person to contribute to the tasks in NA4. The person shall be employed from the start of the EGEE-III project.

Participant 21: Vetenskaspradet – Swedish Research Council, VR-SNIC
The Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC) was chartered by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet, VR) in 2003 for coordinating and developing high-end computing capacity, including Grid resources, for Swedish research. In 2003, SNIC and its six associated centres initiated an on-going, long-term collaboration including development and operation of the Swedish Grid system SweGrid. The collaboration led by SNIC also participates in the EGEE-II project within the NE ROC. SNIC has a de facto Joint Research Unit (JRU) for Grid Operation and Development in operation since 2003. The SNIC JRU is formed by the Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC), within the Swedish Research Council (VR), three HPC centres affiliated to SNIC: HPC2N, PDC, NSC. The JRU is managed by the Strategic Technical Advisory Committee (STAC), which is a subcommittee under SNIC, and a Technical Director. The resources committed to the JRU are specified in agreements between SNIC, the user consortium, and the affiliated centres.
Specific role in the project:

NA4: Within the computational chemistry cluster contribute to application porting/integration and licence handling concerning the DALTON and NWChem codes and provide integration of the ECCE problem solving environment(10PM). Regional support and main support contact for Nordic region (10PM).

SA1: Coordinative tasks. Participation in workgroups and teams related to security and operations. Daily support activities. Porting and software development.

Participant 22: Russian Research Centre Kurchatov Institute, RRC-KI
RRC KI (http://www.kiae.ru) is the first State National Research Centre of Russia established on the basis of the I.V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy (founded in 1943) in November 1991. At present the object of the RRC KI activities is innovation based on research in nuclear fission and fusion reactions, and development of nanotechnologies. RRC KI is leading institution in Russia in these research and innovative fields. RRC KI also has activity in some new directions: extensive research in natural science including biology, chemistry, micro fabrication technologies, medicine, material study; research works in the field of defense technology conversion, scientific support of implementation of the research results in various national economy branches; research and development in the area of microelectronic technology and information systems. RRC KI has one of the largest operational centers of NREN in Russia, support the .ru domain zone. RRC KI participates in lots of nuclear experiments and projects over the world. RRC KI is also the coordinator of the ITER project from Russia. It has a long expertise in security issues. Within the LCG the Institute supports ALICE and other HEP VOs.

The main achievements of RRC KI participation in EGEE/EGEEII projects (http://www.grid.kiae.ru, http://ca.grid.kiae.ru/RDIG) are creation of new Russian CA (from summer 2005), network provision (SA2), provision of Grid security and networking for RDIG, regional VO creation for Fusion applications (summer 2005).

Specific role in the project:

NA2: Coordination of Russian outreach and dissemination activity.

NA3: Development and preparation of training material (presentations, lectures, web-pages, printed material) and organisation of training sessions.

NA4: Developing a prototype of the Grid environment for future ITER applications. Support of fusion research applications in RDIG. Earth Science Cluster.

SA1: Management and Operation of National Certification Authorities. 1-st line support for operational problems. Specific Grid services for VO FusionGrid and NanoGrid. Support the FusionGrid and NanoGrid applications and VO's, coordination with other EGEE federations in these areas. Security. RDIG Helpdesk.

SA2: Operational procedures, their updates and improvements. Relations with the providers and the clients. Work on standardization and interoperability (trouble ticket exchange normalization, interface with the network service provisioning, etc.). Ipv6 compliance in the EGEE-III infrastructure.

SA3: Testing of gLite components. Development of certification, stress and performance tests for gLite software and participation in gLite PPS. Debugging of gLite software. Analysis of performance and stress tests results.

Participant 23: Greek Research and Technology Network S.A., GRNET
The Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET S.A. www.grnet.gr) is a state-owned company operating under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Development - General Secretariat for Research and Technology. The mission of GRNET is to provide advanced, high-quality electronic infrastructure services to the Academic, Research and Educational communities of Greece and to disseminate Information & Communications Technologies to the general public. The main services that GRNET, currently provides are national research and education networking and high performance computing services. GRNET, currently operates the research gigabit Internet backbone in Greece, which is interconnected with GÉANT with 20Gbps, while its next generation hybrid network based on 6500km of own dark is being developed.

Under the HellasGrid National Grid Initiative (www.hellasgrid.gr) GRNET has signed cooperation agreements with 20 leading research and academic institutes, which have shown significant experience in the area of high performance computing. GRNET, through the HellasGrid project and its partners, offers a high performance computing and storage infrastructure with around 1000 CPUs in 6 clusters and 100 TBs of storage (30 in disks and 60 in tapes). GRNET has been a major partner in the major European Grid projects, such as EGEE and EGEE-II, leading the efforts of South East Europe and the policy and international cooperation activity (NA5), while participating in the European Grid Initiative (EGI) Design Study Project. GRNET coordinates the SEE-GRID-2 regional project and participates in other infrastructure or Grid research projects such as EumedGrid and EuChinaGrid (regional), e-IRGSP (policy support), and RINGrid (study on requirements for integrating scientific instruments in the Grid).

Specific role in the project:

NA2: Coordination of EGEE related dissemination activities at the national level; Representing and promoting EGEE in various regional and international events, and to user communities.

NA3: Content creation and delivery of training in Greece with focus on application lessons. Contributions to training material and course development, including e-learning. Interaction with the other SEE and central partners.

NA4: Hellasgrid will provide the deputy activity leader for this activity, and will coordinate regional support activities, in cooperation with the different local teams. Participate in the VO support team, as well as in the direct user support task, with both organizational and technical responsibilities.

NA5: GRNET will lead the activity. In addition, it will be very active in all the NA5 tasks, which are the policy work, the interaction with other projects over viewing the CPLO work, as well as the standardisation monitoring efforts.

SA1: GRNET will continue its role as South Eastern Europe ROC coordinator, providing the overall management of the distributed SEE ROC. Responsible for coordination of middleware deployment and support in the region, oversight of operational problems, contribution to security coordination. Responsible for resource induction, operation and user support. Close cooperation with the other countries in the region and the OCC.

SA2: GRNET will assist the ENOC to improve its procedures and tools. In addition, as an NREN, it will actively participate to the TNLC, liaise with the GEANT and other projects, and work on TT normalization, interoperability and service level agreements.

SA3: GRNET will continue to operate a certification testbed, performing patch testing and certification. Testing batch systems and job submission services, providing debugging, and related support.
