SPREAD SOME COLOR THIS SPRING WITH EARTH DUMPLINGS
PARK CITY – Recycle Utah and the Summit Sunflower Garden Club will be hosting an Earth Dumpling Workshop at the center located at 1951 Woodbine Way in Park City on Wednesday April 28th starting at 6 pm. Earth Dumplings, also called Seed Balls, are a combination of red clay, compost and native wildflower seeds that when dried, can be thrown along trails, in yards and in open fields. Seeds will sprout to provide color in the landscape and help enrich our native plant species.
" By throwing earth dumplings out in the spring and fall, we help regenerate our native ecosystem which supports biodiversity in our local environment." said DeeAnn Downing, owner and founder of RedAnt Works, a local ecological landscape and lawn care company. Downing was instrumental in designing the Earth Dumpling Workshop. Seed balls were originally created by Masanobu Fukuoka and have shown most promising successes in arid climes, like Park City.
Recycle Utah will have all the materials to make more than 500 seed balls during the workshop. All participants will go home with plenty of them to use during the hiking season. A donation for materials is appreciated. Call Recycle Utah to RSVP at 435-649-9698.
Recycle Utah is Summit County’s non-profit drop off recycling center and provides year round educational opportunities for community members to learn more about leading sustainable lives. More information about Recycle Utah is available at www.recycleutah.org.
