Vosganian: Energy consumption will stabilise in the next years

Vosganian: Energy consumption will stabilise in the next years Business karina.lerintiu | July 11th, 2013 at 9:00 PM In 2-3 years from now, Romania will export gas to R. Moldova, Bulgaria and Hungary, the president of the energy authority, Niculae Havrilet announced. The demand for energy in the years to come will stabilize at 45-40 TWh a year and Romania must examine the possibility to export electricity, Varujan Vosganian , Minister of Economy, told an energy conference on Thursday. "When the industrial policy decides to stimulate the industries in the rural area, the high-tech industries, then the share of the steel and chemical products industries will go down. Then the energy consumption will not grow at the same pace at which the gross domestic product will grow,' said Vosganian. According to him, a 5 per cent increase in the GDP does not lead to a 5 per cent increase in the level of energy consumption; it can even lead to a decrease. We must come to store renewable energy, to hydrogen-based formulas or other formulas that should lead to storing renewable electric energies, without which we shall have a limit we shall not be able to leave behind. I think that investments in storing renewable energies are maybe more efficient than the development of pumping stations. We must industrialize and market the rural areas. It is fundamental for Romania,' explained the Minister of Economy. In his turn, the president of the National Regulatory Authority of Energy (ANRE ), Niculae Havrilet said that Romania will export, in 2-3 years from now, gas to Moldova, Bulgaria and Hungary, when the interconnection pipelines will be constructed. Gas export is a demand of the European Commission, which criticised Romania for the lack of gas interconnection networks with neighboring states. According to the delegate minister for Energy, Constantin Nita , the construction of the gas pipeline that will connect Romania and Moldova via Iasi-Ungheni will start in August and will be concluded by the end of this year, following a total investment of EUR 23-24 M. The gas consumption of Moldova is 0.9 bln cubic meters, Havrilet added. As a comparison, Romania consumes each year 14 bln cubic meters, 80 pc of which are produced internally. The biggest producers are OMV Petrom and Romgaz . Economy minister: Private investors have obligations toward our society The minister of Economy, Varujan Vosganian said that he does not trust the foreign companies that demand support from the state without offering nothing in exchange, and that any investor has responsibilitiesa towards the Romanian society, also referring in the context to ArcelorMittal, which - he believes - received several forms of support from the Romanian state. Vosganian added that, after the approval of tha pact for the steel industry at the level of the European Union, the government will sign protocols with each steel company that will establish what it will offer to these investors and what they can offer to the state. These will be followed by protocols with the companies from the chemical industry. Romania-Moldova, to boost investment relations Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian proposed his counterpart of the Republic of Moldova the setup of a Romanian-Moldovan business forum, for thrusting the investment relations between the two countries, according to Agerpres. At the same time, the Romanian Minister proposed the organisation of a meeting in Iasi, before the joint committee session of October, between the Romanian and Moldovan local officials for a sustained regional collaboration. Varujan Vosganian on Thursday at the Economy Ministry headquarters had a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister of the Republic of Moldova Valeriu Lazar, with Economy Deputy Minister (in charge of the energy sector) Tudor Copaci and the Republic of Moldova Ambassador in Bucharest Iurie Leanca also attending. The discussions focused on establishing the agenda of the joint committee session of Chisinau, of October 3-4. Varujan Vosganian congratulated Valeriu Lazar for his reconfirmation as Economy Minister and hailed the efforts of the leadership of Chisinau for concluding, in a record time, the negotiations of the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova.
