4.2 Strategies employed to achieve goals/target

A School Research Discussion Group was established. The purpose of this group is to offer colleagues the opportunity to discuss M&D research which is being undertaken in the School and to provide input into each others work. The group also acts as study leaders for M & D students in the School. Members of the School Research Discussion Group include all staff with Doctoral degrees. The DoS scheduled a research meeting for all school members to discuss research-related issues and strategies to enhance the research profile of the school.
In 2013 a number of initiatives were undertaken by the Faculty RTI committee and the UAMS to address the needs of both emerging and established researchers. These strategies are also applicable to members of the Unit and include, amongst others:

  • Payment of pages fees as an incentive to publish articles in accredited journals.

  • Faculty researcher and emerging researcher of the year awards to give recognition to researchers in the School and Faculty.

  • M & D colloquium held in March 2013 for the School of Management Sciences to provide a platform for promoting and enhancing post graduate research which were externally evaluated by a panel of three evaluators.

  • Enhancing the qualification profile of the Faculty and School by increasing the percentage of members with masters and doctorate degrees.

  • Prof G. Stead presented various research-orientated workshops.

  • A number of research-related workshops were presented during 2013 by Research Capacity Development to equip members with better research skills and knowledge and all members were encouraged to attend.
