Evaluation of Landscape Changes in Suburban Settlements in the Urbanization Process
Nowadays cities, designing to respond all the needs of millions of people, changing cultural and socio-economic developments cause the rapid expansion and complex structures in the cities. For this reason, even if the different architectural structures, transportation networks, life styles consist, the negative impacts on the people of city life occur. At the beginning of this negative effects, desire of people being away from the bustling city life and escaping to the more quiet, peaceful, rural places of the town comes.

In this study, Zekeriyaköy which examined the region is a settlement of Sarıyer that is one of the most beautiful district of Istanbul, Turkiye. Although it is close to the urban still doesn’t lose its identity as a village. Besides the positive contributions of urbanization in the region has led many things with it. Changing identity, decreasing forestlands, deterioration of the naturality and the increasing in the population of the city are the most important effects on it.

The purpose of this study is to determine effects on the rural region of the urbanization, to investigate the spatial formation of Zekeriyaköy from past to present through literature review and visual materials (like map, photograph, etc); and alterations of those spaces formed by political decisions and planning rules, physical and social conditions. In this subject besides the literature review and visual materials, according to complaints and needs of people in the region will be supported by interviewing.

At the conclusion, written, visual and oral sources results in the light of the information obtained Zekeriyaköy since 1982 and particularly the rapid development between 1990-2000 and the impact of these changes have been revealed. In this context, because of in the village constructions and in the area under construction the 3rd Bosphorus Bridge, solutions of the problems about the positive as well as negative effects influence came under Zekeriyaköy are presented, for not to be more affected the environment in the future years policy to be followed is evaluated.
