High Performance Hybrid Adders Design Based Carry Select Adder
The structure of the Carry Select Adder depending on parallel addition operation is becoming more popular in the design of high performance adders. On the other hand, since it’s steady and mobile, Carry Select Adder structure are commonly used in the design of mixed adders circuits.
In this study, mixed adder structures depending on Carry Select adders are used with conductive adders Basic Units (TU-Basic Unit) in an attempt to develop high-performance mixed adder circuits.
For this reason, undulating adder known as ordinary conductive adder, Carry Ripple Adder (RCA), Carry Look Ahead Adder (CLA), Carry Skip Adder (CSA), Kooge-Stone Parallel Prefix Adder and Brent-Kung Parallel Prefix Adder and their algorithms and circuit designs are investigated in detail. Then, in order to create simulations of the adder circuits, Altrera QUARTUS II software and various applications are investigated in Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language.
In this thesis, performance analyses were performed on RCA-TU, CLA-TU, CSKA-TU, Kogge/Stone-TU and Brent/Kung-TU depending on the Suggested Carry Select adder circuits formed with mixed topologies. As adder performance criteria, the input-output delay of the circuit, the number of logic gates used (circuit area) and the total performance values obtained with the multiplication of these two criterion.
According to the results obtained, mixed adders depending on the suggested carry select adders demonstrated higher performance than classical single adders and mixed adders depending on selective adders.
