Recent developments in laser technology increased the number of application fields. In manufacturing welding, cutting and hole cutting have the most common application areas. Using laser in manufacturing processes makes the automation to integrate easy and reduces the flaws. Machines that uses laser can produce 24 hours a day and speeds up the mass production that leads to lower costs. In this study, it is intented to speed up the mass production by reducing the time losses.
Before starting to cut a metal sheet, the corner of it should be defined as a reference point. This reference point is defined with two different methods by conventional systems. The first method is automatic. In this method the cutting head moves along the machine sides to find the corners to calculate the reference point. The second one is manual. In this method machine operator moves the head in low speed manually to the corner. This methods are quite time consuming. In one cutting process almost 50-60 seconds are lost. This leads to 2 hours of lost for a machine that cuts 1200 pieces per a day. It is intented to solve this problem with the help of image processing applications.
In this study three algorithms are applied to find the corner. These are Hough Technique, Haaris Technique and Steerable Filter Technique. Results show that Hough Technique is more successful than Harris Technique and Steerable Filter – Harris Technique is the worst to find the corner. In this study there are many disturbance effects are found. Because of light effecting the photo shoots, images are distorted partially. Therefore, using Harris Technique the corner can not be found from most of the images. However, using Steerable Filter – Hough Tachnique all of the corner points are found accurately. Details are explained in the results section.
