Characterisation of Stress-Strain Behaviour of Soils Through Experimental Database
Characterisation of granular soils’ stress-strain behaviour is one of the challenging topics in geotechnical engineering. When the stress-strain curves obtained by triaxial compression experiments are observed, it is seen that the soils’ behaviour has a chaotic structure in elasticity and plasticity zones influenced by different factors. Consequently accurate definition of soil behaviour is quite difficult. In this study a database is builded by gathering granular soils’ experimental datas of stress-strain curves obtained through triaxial compression experiment and the basic properties of those soils. With a differrent view those curves are regenerated emprically through different phases observed in elasticity and plasticity zones together with soil properties thought to influence them. Than a correlation between phase changing levels of stress-strain curves and soil properties is searched. Again a presence of an angular relation between phase changing levels of those curves originating from soil properties is investigated. Finally probability of the definition of granular materials’ stress-strain behaviour with soil characteristics is studied.
