Calculations of Quantum Capacitance of The Two Dimensıonal Electron System
In this thesis we investigate electrostatic properties of two dimensional electron system (2DES) in quantum Hall regime and how changes of compressible and incompressible strips at the edge states. We consider impurity effect on two dimensional density of states calculations, Landau Levels are broadened with impurities. Density of state takes two different form for impurites, these are Gaussian form and with self consistent Born approximation (SCBA) (in this approximation density of state has semi eliptical shape, because tails of Gaussian goes zero when tails goes infinity), we calcaulate conductivities with Thomas – Fermi – Poisson approximation. Definition of parallel plate capacitance is also equal to charging energy which is the energy that is required to move one elementary charge between parallel plates. That means we can calculate capacitance only if we have available states. Therefore capacitance is proportional to compressibility of 2DES, we called that quantum capacitance and we made calculations of this capacitance for Gaussian and SCBA density of states. An experiment by using Dynamic scanning capacitance microscopy has similar results with ours.
