Examination ın Terms of Planning and Construction Criteria of Forest Roads ın Kurtkemeri Forest Enterprise
The aim of the forest roads which are planned and constructed to perform forestry activities effectively are achieving and servicing the activities such as production, conservation, recreation and fire protection.Subjects such as providing durability in forest roads or perfect maintenance at proper time are some of the important elements under the name of prestudies of forest road distributions, road constructions in optimal and mountainous fields and arrangements on transport plans, which are featured in forest road network planning.
The fieldwork of this study is Kurtkemeri Forest Sub-district Directorate which is affiliated to İstanbul Forest Regional Directorate. In this study current situations of all forest roads in the area are determined. All data is acquired by field survey. Acquired data is processed and analysed by using ArcGIS software. It is determined that the analysis made is an extremely important tool on preparing the numerical field model of the studied area which realizes the database capacity, data updates and numerical field model analysis of the geographical information systems.
In the study 3 asphalt A-type roads and 18 B-type roads are found in the area which is belonged to the responsibility of Kurtkemeri Forest Sub-district Directorate. 4 of them have pavement. The other 14 roads does not have pavement, in another word they are unpaved roads. The total area of the responsibility area of the directorate is 2832 hectars and the total length of the roads in the area is measured as 81.6 kilometers. The road density of the area is calculated as 28.83m/hectar. This ratio is higher than the average forest road density of our country which is 20m/hectar. The distance between the roads are variable between 300-500 meters. In some regions of the area the distance is closer than the distance that must be. In addition to that, there are inactive and abandoned roads in the area. These inactive roads increase the road density of the area negatively as they are included in the road network plan. The area does not include any region that needs a new road construction. The forest roads cover the area as a network. Maintenance and the renovation of the roads must be performed within regular time periods.
