Investıgatıon Of The Separatıon Of Some Organıc Acıds From Its Aqueous Solutıons Wıth Bulk Lıquıd Membranes Contaınıng Amıne
Carboxylic acids have a widespread use in industry. During the production of carboxylic acids by the fermentation process or in industrial wastewater streams the separation of acids from the aqueous media is economically in great importance.
In this study, the separation of carboxylic acids from aqueous solutions with liquid membranes was investigated. On the other hand, reactive extraction experiments were also performed to evaluate the performance of investigated liquid membrane systems.
In these experiments tributly amine, dissolved in various diluents, was used as extractant. Amines and solvents were prepared as liquid membranes, and the separation of carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butiric acids) from their aqueous solutions with bulk liquid membranes were investigated.
In the bulk liquid membrane experiments, the effects of the mixing of membrane phase, the acid type, the diluents, and the concentration of stripping phase on the separation process were examined.
In general, it was observed that liquid membranes were more effective separation techniques than reactive extraction for the separation of carboxylic acids from aqueous solutions.
