Tintinnid (Protozoa: Ciliophora) Species in the Gulf of Gemlik and Some

Ecological Properties of the Environment
In order to determine the tintinnid species and abundances in the Gulf of Gemlik and some ecological factors that affect distribution of the species, samples were collected with water sampler and a plankton net which has specific aperture size (40 µm) at 11 stations (6 shore, 5 offshore) between June 2010-May 2011 monthly. From the examination of the samples, 28 tintinnid species belonging to 7 familia, 12 genus were identified. According to literature information, 19 species are new record for Marmara Sea, and also 5 of them are new record for Turkish coastal waters (Eutintinnus medius (Kofoid and Campbell) Kofoid and Campbell, 1939, Metacylis mediterranea (Mereschkowsky) Jörgensen, 1924, Tintinnopsis acuminata Daday, 1887, Tintinnopsis corniger Hada, 1964 and Tintinnopsis urnula Meunier, 1910). Codonellidae and Tintinnidae families represented to majority of the species composition (both of 8 species, 28.6%). The genus Tintinnopsis were observed as dominant when compare with the others according to numbers of individuals. The maximum number of individuals of Tintinnopsis were recorded in October 2010 (10520 ind l^-1). As a result of evaluating of the data according to existence frequency of the species, 5 groups were obtained such as 2 “very abundant” species, 3 “abundant” species, 5 “common” species, 6 “rare ” species and 12 other “present sporadically” species. During the study, such as temperature (8.1-29.3 ºC), salinity (14.98-38.65 ‰), dissolved oxygen (2.06-17.18 mg l^-1), and pH (7.7-8.8) were recorded on each sampling occasion.
