Controlled building demolition with explosives is becoming more attractive day by day cause of it's rapid implementation, low cost and safety.
New techniques are seeked in the concept of urban transformation in our country cause there are many of the old or damaged buildings that are needed to be demolished.Considering the advantages, controlled structure destruction by explosives is a remarkable technique that is applied successfully in abroad countries for years.
In this study, the destruction with explosives and efficiency of destruction are investigated. General information about drilling and blasting are given and a detailed literature about the destruction of the building is worked. The advantages and disadvantages of explosive demolition instead of other methods are discussed.
Edirne Kapıkule customs lodgings are destructed by explosives and machines in the scope of this thesis. When designing the explosive demolition of the building, the static structure, the plan and the location of the building is taken into consideration. Due to limited conditions, studies have been conducted to design the most suitable facilities.
The samples taken from the building are examined in the lab, analyzed in computers analysis, the trial pulses are realized. From these results appropriate demolition designs are determined.
These two demolition methods are compared in terms of costs and ease of implementation.In the result of this comparison, the efficiency of demolition using explosives is discussed.
In our country, there is not yet a regulation of explosives for a controlled demolition so it is very difficult to get the necessary permissions to use this technique. So there is need occured, pyrotechnic material, that is not in the in the class of explosive materials. In order pyrotechnic material to be observed in building demolition experiments are done.
