Method and Theır Characterızatıon

In this study, NiMo alloy coatings were produced by electrochemical technique. Two different substrates were used in electrodeposition processes. The first one is copper plate and the second one is pure nickel coating electrodeposited onto copper plate. In the production of NiMo alloy coatings, electrodeposition conditions such as electrolyte composition, electrolyte pH, current density, electrolyte temperature and stirring speed were investigated and the optimum electrodeposition conditions with respect to HER overpotential were determinated.

Investigated electrodeposition conditions and their values in the experimental stages are given below:


  • Ni2+/Mo6+ mole ratio in the electrolyte: 1/10, 2/3, 1/1, 3/2, 10/1, 12/1

  • Electrolyte pH: 9.5, 10.5 ve 11.5

  • Current density: 15 Adm-2, 20 Adm-2 ve 25 Adm-2

  • Electrolyte temperature: 30°C, 45°C ve 60°C

  • Stirring speed: 0 rpm and 120 rpm

Electrocatalytic activity of NiMo coatings determined by Tafel polarization curves and EIS technique. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technique also was applied to investigate the electrode/electrolyte interface and the corresponding processes that occur at the electrode surface while HER. Some performance tests which inclued anodic and cathodic process carried out on the NiMo coatings. With these performance tests, NiMo coatings physical and electrochemical behaviours at the working conditions were investigated. All electrochemical test were made in 1 M NaOH at different temperatures.
NiMo coatings structural characterization and phase analysis were made by XRD technique while microstructure and chemical compositions were determined by SEM, EDS and AAS analysis.
