Manuscrıpts, Rare Printed Books Manuscripts and rare printed books seen as historic artefact and works of art are the main components of our cultural heritage. These works of art are deteriorated by physical, chemical and biological agents (microorganisms, insects etc.).The most destructive biological pests are the insects. The effect of environmental conditions accelerate the insect deterioration to works of art.
Stegobium paniceum is a common pest found in all museums and libraries in the world and in Turkey. In this study, the damage of Stegobium paniceumto manuscripts and rare print books was investigated,modified athmosphere and low temperature treatments were tested. The effects of low temperature on paper were studied. After the treatments the % 100 insect mortality was observed, meanwhile damage on paper was insignificant.
