Analytical Solutions for Unsteady Generalized Couette Flow of a Binary Mixture of İmcompressible Viscous Fluids

Much of the developments in the mixture theory concern about the general formulation of the balance equations and constitutive equations. Although there is a well-developed theory of mixtures, there are few studies concerning about the applications of the mixture theory.

With the aim of increasing the number of studies which concerning about aplications of the mixture theory, some practical problems has been investigated and the governing equations of the motion of a binary mixture of incompressible viscous fluids have been derived by using the mixture theory. The governing equations, have been solved with the help of an appropriate finite integral transform and exact solutions have been obtained for unsteady generalized Couette flow of a binary mixture of incompressible viscous fluids in four different geometries.

In the first chapter, the significance of the mixtures has been emphasized and different approaches for solution of flow of the mixtures have been discussed briefly. Then the problems under discussion have been introduced.

In the second chapter, the historical development of the mixture theroy and balance equations have been presented. Later in this chapter constitutive equations for a binary mixture of incompressible viscous fluids have been listed. In last section of the second chapter, boundary conditions and mean viscosity of the mixture which make difficulties at the applications of mixture theory have been discussed briefly. Later previous studies dealing with the flow of a binary mixture of incompressible viscous fluids have been summarized.

In the third chapter, flow of a Newtonian fluid have been obtained in geometries under discussion in order to compare the results with flow of a binary mixture of incompressible viscous fluids.

From the fourth to the seventh chapters; the exact solutions have been obtained for steady and unsteady generalized Couette flow of a binary mixture of incompressible viscous fluids between horizontal parallel plates, in a rectangular channel, in an annulus, and in a semicircular channel respectively.

In the eigth chapter, the results obtained in the previous chapters have been presented in graphical forms for different values of the parameters and some comments about the results and the figures have been made.

In Appendix-A and B, some important properties of the Besssel functions and integral transforms used in this study have been presented respectively.
