| Comparison of Milk-Run System and Cross Docking System in Supply Chain from Cost Point of View
In this study it is mentioned that, lean logistics’ concepts, that are used in common and efficiently in recent times; milk-run system’s which is realized with one truck goes around all supplier, cross docking system’s which is realized dispatching different truck to each supplier, required conditions of them, advantages and disadvantages of these concepts and transportation costs when different types and size of items are transporting during transportation operations of these concepts.
The aim of this study is minimizing transportation costs of milk-run and cross docking systems with comparing which system has better result, supply chain management, logistics and logistics management, lean thinking and lean production concepts are examined and mentioned the importance of lean logistics which is integration of lean and logistics concepts.
The study emphasize lean logistics techniques of milk-run and cross docking, their usage, efficient of transporting different profiles of items with these systems and comparing costs of transportations.
Knowledge of application provide a new point of view to the argument and show how theoretical information realized in practices. Besides, applications lead future studies which is about transportation modes and networks.
