Growth Performance and Fatty Acid Composition of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum, 1972) Fed Diets Included Cottonseed Oil

In this study the effect of feeds included different (% 25, % 50, % 75 and % 100) ratios of cottonseed oil substitute of fish oil on growth performance and fatty acid composition of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss W., 1972) were investigated. Totally 500 fish (mean initial weight was 89,33 g) were used for feeding trials during the 60 days.

Growth performanceof fish were calculated as individual growth performance, specific growth rate, feed utilization, condition factor, carcass ratio, viserosomatic and hepatosomatic index values. Proximate composition and fatty acid composition of experimental feeds or fish and total lipid in the liver samples of fish were determined.

At the end of feeding trials, mean individual weight gain of the fish was found the highest value (62,97 g) in experimental group 3 (P0.05). No significant differences were found among the other experimental groups (P>0.05). Experimental group 3 had the lowest feed conversion ratio (1,28) (P0.05) and no significant (between 1,35-1,37) differences were detected among the other experimental groups (P>0.05). To increase VSI and HSI values gradually increased cottonseed percentages in diets. However, experimental group 5 had the highest VSI (14,68) and HSI (1,16) values.

Liver and whole body lipid vawes or fatty acid composition of fish were significantly affected by cottonseed oil in diets. Results showed that diets included cottonseed oil % 50 and over levels were increased body and liver lipids of fish (P0.05). Cottonseed oil levels in diets were gradually increased n-6 PUFA.percentages and were gradually decreased n-3 PUFA and n-3 HUFA percentages (P0.05). n-6 PUFA and n-3 PUFA of whole fish bodies were directly reflected fatty acid composition of experimental diets.

According to the all results, growth performance and fatty acid composition of fish were shown that is possible use % 50 and sub levels of cottonseed oil as substitute fish oil in the rainbow trout diets.
