Research Report 2006
Director: Dr Adekeye Adebajo
Departmental Profile
The Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR) seeks to contribute towards a just peace in Africa by promoting constructive, innovative and collaborative approaches to the resolution of conflict and the reduction of violence on the continent. In 2006 the Centre focussed its activities on mediation, training, education and research in the field of conflict resolution. CCR’s National Programme endeavours to assist in the resolution of political and community conflict in South Africa; to transform prisons through training and empowering prison staff members and inmates; and to promote peace in South African schools. CCR’s Africa Programme consists of the Conflict Intervention and Peacebuilding Support (CIPS) and the Policy Research and Development (PDR) projects. CIPS is currently working in four key areas: Sustained Interventions; Early Warning Systems; Gender and Peacebuilding; and the Human Rights and Conflict Management Programme. PDR is conducting research into four principle areas: South Africa's Role in Africa; the UN's Role in Africa; the Relationship between the AU and NEPAD; and HIV/AIDS and Security.
The CCR also has its own Peace Library which has a strong focus on peacebuilding and conflict resolution in Africa.
