Departmental Profile
Equipoise and parity between academic enquiry (research and documentation) and creative scholarship (choreography, direction and performance) inform the diverse outputs of our department. The participation of staff and students in a variety of dance projects – at undergraduate and graduate levels – acknowledges the inherent intellectual play of postmodern - and increasingly posthuman - art practice, as referenced in a distinctly democratic, multicultural, African society.
Highlights of the year included a collaborative musical production with the UCT music and drama departments, participation in international Cape Town Opera tours, Cape Town City Ballet productions and a teaching residency by the executive director of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, New York.
